The Secretary of State for Defence, commonly referred to as the Defence Secretary, is a senior member of the Cabinet, and is director of the Ministry of Defence.
The Defence Secretary is primarily responsible for the oversight of the civilian administration of the Armed Forces, reporting in that capacity to the President of Roscamistan. The Defence Secretary is also an officer involved in the integrity of elections alongside the Electoral Commission and Supreme Court. [1]
History
The office was formed in April 2021 as the Minister of Defence. David Moore was appointed the inaugural holder. Moore resigned on the 23rd of June, and Thomas Jacobs served temporarily in the position, until the 4th of July.
Chris Waldron was appointed to the office on the 4th of July. He was superseded by upcoming politician Doros Patusky until he assumed the office on the 1st of October. Patusky resigned the office on the 21st over a dispute, and returned 8 days later.
Following his sacking in May 2022, Jan Kotoński was given the office. Though initially passionate in reforms, he became inactive. When he left micronationalism in February 2023, the office was given to military strategist and future vice president Marco Hasse. However, his refusal to join the RDPF resulted in his dismissal. Eryk Pilarski was appointed in June 2023.
Duties and responsibilities
The Defence Secretary is the senior minister assigned matters of national defence, being overseer of the administration of the National Armed Forces of Roscamistan, as well as overseeing elections in collaboration with the Electoral Commission and Supreme Court. Neither the President nor Vice President may be Defence Secretary, as per the Constitution.
The Defence Secretary is also a member of the Cabinet and the Defence Staff, attending meetings of both bodies. He is also one of two designated military advisors to the President, the other being the Chief of the Defence Staff.
