Saarditian Democratic Republic

The Saarditan Empire is a secessionist sovereign state primarily located in New Zealand. The Saarditian Empire was primarily located in New Zealand, but now holds territory in the Cook Islands and the Dominican Republic. The Empire is a Constitutional Monarchy with a Unitary Parliamentary system.

History

Background

The history of the Saarditian Empire dates back to mid-2019, when New Zealand micronationalist Joseph Bredenoord founded the Democratic Republic of Gostaak. The small nation existed for merely two weeks after its creation, when it was dissolved and reorganised into the Commonwealth of Ederlaand. Ederlaand then became one of the fastest growing micronations in New Zealand, having experienced a great population growth and steady development. However, a personal matter faced by Bredenoord in early 2020 led to Ederlaand becoming inactive for more than three months, before it became active and now with a population decline.

“Time to open up the curtains” – Foundation of an Empire

In early December 2020, Bredenoord created an advisory committee that would look for a better political system to keep the country functioning. In late January of 2021, he announced on Instagram that Ederlaand would be reorganised into a Constitutional Monarchy, with him serving as its country's first Sovereign and Head of State. In his first speech to the newly created Legislative Council he described the transition of the country's political system as a "...time to open up the curtains...".

On February 1, 2021, the Commonwealth of Ederlaand was officially reorganised into the Saarditian Empire, with him serving as the Empire's first King. Inspiration for the Empire came after watching The King; Eternal Monarch, a K-Drama Netflix series. Despite the change in political system, the country wouldn't feel its true consequences until two months later, when it was announced that Bredenoord's family dog and former Regiment-Marshal Caesar the Great was put down in February 7 2021. In respect of his services to the former Commonwealth of Ederlaand, King Bredenoord abdicated and decreed that Caesar be declared Sovereign-Eternal of the Saarditian Empire.
