The Salt Creek Republic was a largely unrecognized Theocratic micronation from the western Chicagoland area made out of several densely-wooded revolting provinces in the Holy Republic of FRID that exist along the Salt Creek, a tributary of the Des Plaines river which adds up to a total measurement of around 534.5k square yards, or around .44 square kilometers. The Salt Creek Republic is now dissolved.

History

The Salt Creek Republic formally declared independence from the Holy Republic of FRID on the second of July in 2022 with a video recorded by the first and sitting president of the Salt Creek Republic, Ian Southwell. In the video, Ian denounces all titles given to him during his time in the holy republic, along with declaring independence from and war on it, thus starting the Creeker Revolution as it has begun to be called in the Salt Creek Republic. After failing to recruit from within the Holy Republic's high council, recruitment efforts began outside the nation.

Early Republic (07.01.2022-10.02.2022)

Starting in early July 2022, the Salt Creek Republic was founded as a state with grounded republican values as opposed to the oligarchic theocracy present in the Holy Republic of FRID. To keep the peace and consistency in republicanism, the initial borders and population were kept smaller than most micronations in order to keep what the leaders of the nation called the "purest republic"- that being a nation as linked to the traditional democratic processes and values of personal freedom- together and stable.

Christian takeover (10.02.2022)

On October 2 of 2022, the large christian population of the nation staged a peaceful takeover of the nation's small republican government, establishing a theocratic republic similar to the one in the HRF, but still closely linked to the basic republican values worn by the nation during the early stages of its history. The change was largely aesthetic and thematic because of the already large grip of power that the Christian population already held in the government.

Battle of East Gillespie

On the same day of the Christian takeover, a battle occured in the area that the Holy Republic of FRID refers to as 'Central province', where a pair of Creeker soldiers desecrated the flag of the Holy Republic, and sent proof to one of the ministers of the Holy Republic of FRID. The ensuing battle involved the two poorly-equipped Creeker soldiers, wielding sticks and stones, where one of the two had to remove his shirt to avoid discomfort as created by the high concentration of Burs in the area. The Fridian soldier was similarly casual and empty-handed at first, being driven out by pure numbers, but he would return some time later in proper uniform and water gun in hand. He was able to reclaim and reoccupy the majority of vital land in the province. The Creeker forces were able to maintain occupation for a considerable amount of land for some time afterwards, but overall the results of the battle of East Gillespie have faded other than its impact as the first and only major battle of the Creeker revolution/the Fridian civil war.

Great Expansion and Reclamation of God's Land (11.09.2022-Summer 2023)

Map of claims made on November 9, 2022

The Great Expansion and Reclamation of God's Land (or great expansion for short) is a period in the history of the Salt Creek Republic of rapid and vaste expansion around the Chicagoland area. the initial claim on November 9, 2022, involved a discussed annexation of the lands around the Wood Dale Forest Preserve (pictured). The red area represents a direct annexation, the yellow an Unclaimed Zone, and the blue an exclusive fishing zone for citizens of both the Salt Creek Republic. Following the initial phase of the great expansion, the SCR began to lie dormant, and eventually entered what would be the last era of its existence. In the summer of 2023, the parliament was disbanded and the Salt Creek Republic, in secrecy, dissolved its government.

Final Action (1.24.2024)

Following a long period of irrelevancy and inactivity, Secondary Minister Ian Southwell assumed title of Prime Minister of the Salt Creek Republic in order to dismantle the theocratic organization of the Republic's state, creating a polytheistic dictatorship and exiling the remaining 4 people represented in the latest census while removing all religious and offensive iconography represented in the Great Expansion era of the nation, before drafting and submitting a document of surrender and absolution to the holy council of the Holy Republic of FRID.

Culture

Much of the nation's cultural identity are simply combinations of cultures from the American regions/states of Montana, New England, and Illinois. These have all created a very unique combination of influences which have inspired many in musical art, culinary art, and a fascination with sculpting for visual arts, especially whilst influenced by the Christian faith.

Religion

The purest origin of the Creeker Revolution is that of the refusal of prayer to the church of FRID, instead wishing for a more polytheistic or atheist state, though since this was proclaimed the republic has adopted Catholicism and broader Christianity as the only present and official religion in the nation. After little debate, Hubert was selected as the patron saint of the republic for his connection to the natural beauty and wildlife of the world, two things that are held dear by the religious population of the republic.

Industry

Construction and anglership have both cemented themselves as the only industries that are found both enjoyable and useful for the development of the nation and culture. Construction for the micro-urbanization of the area so that the land can become more traversable and appealing to those not used to the lands that the republic has carved out in claims, and fishing for the enjoyability and prestige that is earned and enjoyed for the act.

Fishing

Despite the overall uncleanliness of the creek, it does harbor an impressive amount of aquatic wildlife. While there are no incredible fishing spots/opportunities near the capital city of St. Allison, there are small Creek Chub (pictured) and Bluegill whose population is abundant in the area, without having an obvious diet, but it is assumed they live off of Larvae and flies. The claims shown above as made on November 9, 2022 were discussed for over two months beforehand because of its good fishing and recreational potential, both of which were some of the only reasons the annexation was realized.

Government and Policy

The government is an Theocratic Republic whose views are heavily based on the preachings found in the new testament of the Bible. The government is also fairly environmentalist, with many ministers describing themselves as 'Eco-nationalist' - a unique ideology that puts god, nation, and the earth first.
