The Ryukyu Empire (Japanese: 琉球帝国), was a micronation that claimed Ryukyu islands. The Ryukyu Empire claimed itself as a government-in-exile. The Ryukyu Islands are a chain of volcanic islands that stretch southwest from Kyushu to Taiwan: the Ōsumi, Tokara, Amami, Okinawa, and Sakishima Islands (further divided into the Miyako and Yaeyama Islands), with Yonaguni the southernmost.
