The Republic of East Florida, is a semi-independent republic declared by a group of twelve students across the United States and Europe. It is based upon an 1812 secessionist state known as the Territory or Republic of East Florida, that declared its independence from Spain in the hopes of becoming a territory under the United States. In 2020 the twelve students held a small convention over the course of three days and established a constitution based heavily upon that of the former country, with the exception of several clauses regarding civil rights, the name of the executive, and the reference to the nation itself regarding it as a republic rather than a territory.
