Republic of Bakerland

The Castlerock Republic , formerly known as the Republic of Bakerland, is a micronation located in Boston, Massachusetts and in central Vermont. The nation was founded on 23 July 2018 by President Jackson Baker. The nation went silent for almost two years but contact with the micronational community on July 31, 2020. The nations capital is located in Castlerock City, in the nation's federal district in Boston Massachusetts. However, despite this, over 99.9% of the nations territory is located in central Vermont, approximately 140 miles away from the Castlerock City at its closest point.

History

The nation was founded on July 23, 2018, as the Republic of Bakerland. The nation operated a border crossing into the United States, and at this point, the nation only consisted of what is now known as the “Federal District”. The country ratified a constitution on November 11, 2018.

Politics and Government

The Castlerock Republic is a presidential republic which can be compared to the government of the United States, as it retains three branches of government and a system of checks and balances between the respective branches. The legislative branch has two chambers: The Executive Council, the upper house, and the National Assembly, the lower house. The National Assembly currently comprises ten members. Each of the nations eight provinces elect a representative for a three-month term. In addition, the Federal District elects two candidates and is divided into electoral districts due to its substantially larger population. The upper house, the Executive Council, consists of three members. The first seat of the council is actually occupied by the President, who sits on the council. The other two are elected at large by the people of Castlerock for six month terms. The first Presidential election took place on July 25, 2018, where Jackson Baker was elected unanimously to a five-year term. His term is set to expire on September 23, 2023. Elections in Castlerock occur four times a year. These general elections occur on the third Sundays of March, June, September, and December as part of national tradition. Each election, all ten seats of the National Assembly are up for election. In addition, a seat on the Executive Council will be on the ballot, as the members have staggered six month terms. Finally, the President or the nations people can lobby for a ballot question to be present. After an election, the victor is inaugurated and the incumbent's term expires the Saturday immediately after the election. The executive branch of the government has several Agencies: the Agency of Economic Affairs and the Treasury, the Agency of Transportation, the Agency of Emergency Management, the Agency of Foreign Affairs and Defense, the Agency of Business and Trade, and the Agency of Domestic Affairs and the Interior.
