The Republic Territory of Redditera, more commonly known as Reddit Island, is a micronation temporarily located in Virginia. Redditera was formed on July 16, 2021, after the party's running to buy the island, split between people wanting to form a government, and those wanting to make a resort, decided to do both, allowing for the Reddit Reformation party, a group of pro-government leaders to declare a Republic. The Republic, lead by inactive leader Nexus still works towards buying an island and starting settlement, though many on the resort side still don't recognize that the island should have a government at all, going for an anarcho-capitalist paradise.
The foreign policy of the Republic is mixed, with the RRP wanting to set up trade with the outside world, while the Anarcho-capitalists wanting to set up a resort where only people with a high enough Reddit karma can come.
History
Before end of r/RedditIsland
In 2010, user u/Matude formed the subreddit r/RedditIsland in hopes of organizing a way to buy an island and set up an independent state on an island but was abandoned in 2016, only to be taken over by user u/MrNoName_ishere, the subreddit quickly gaining thousands of members due to his memes about it going viral on the platform. the subreddit was completely unorganized, with the majority wanting a meme nation, not really taking the project seriously, while the more serious anarcho-capitalists wanted a resort for people with a high enough Reddit karma. some wanted to ask multi-billionaire Elon Musk to fund the project, with a moderator posting a fake message about getting in talks with Elon in early 2021. soon it was found out that the moderator lied, who insisted it was a mistake and stepped down. On May 25, infamous user u/IslandOwnerAlt made a post stating he had inherited an island from his grandfather in Cuba and said that he would provide the island, as long as people provided money for travel, infrastructure and legal costs. many like user u/Flimsy-Oil-7634 tried gaining information about the island and found it to not match the owner's description of the island. around 2 weeks later, u/IslandOwnerAlt came out with a post, calling people who donated to him "suckers" and saying it was a scam. Estimates say around $700 dollars were scammed out of people, instantly making him an enemy of everyone in the subreddit. Some tried to sue the user for fraud, though nothing really came from it. The loss of their one real ticket to getting the island basically ruined the project, the subreddit and adjoining discord being abandoned soon afterwards.
r/RedditIslandReborn
in early June 2021, remnants of the Reddit Island project for the RedditIslandReborn subreddit, with the goal of continuing the project with more of a direct path, but was still plagued with the subreddit side wanting to start a government, and the mod team wanting a resort. with no funding and no real organization, the project was hindered even more by viral YouTube videos about the failure of the project. In early July 2021, user u/Erw2n_Rommel posted a flag design to Reddit, quickly becoming one of its most supported designs, and formed the Reddit Reformation Party, a conservative democratic party aiming to organize the project into forming a micronation and start gaining funds to buy an island. The party, being the main supporter of the government strategy, was heavily brought down by the moderator team behind the subreddit, with the team wanting to set up a resort, just like the anarcho-capitalists from r/RedditIsland. On July 16, 2021, debating between both sides eventually lead to a shaky deal being made; the mod team would be able to make their resort, while pro-government supporters would be able to set up a government to run the island more efficiently, while the resort would run with no micronation tax. That same day, Erw2n declared the Republic Territory of Redditera as an unrecognized free territory, consisting temporarily of his backyard until the land is purchased. with the shaky support of the Anarcho-Capitalists and the RRP, the state was born and a foundation was built.
Infighting and threats to sovereignty

On July 16, 2021, the same day that the nation was formed, the Resort Party lead by the mod team decided to announce rebranding, without counseling the other members of the project about this. Their goal was to drop the goal of buying an island entirely, and the name of Redditera. This lead to major backlash from the majority of the population, most specifically being the subreddit side of the project, who where all mostly RRP members. Leader Erw2n publicly denounced the Resort Party and the mod team, calling for the mods to ban user u/Cosmicgamer2009, a prominent Resort Party member on the subreddit, due to his toxicity to RRP members and for retaliation against the mod team's blatant disregard for the population.

Government status
With the state being run by Reddit moderators, a real form of government is so far non-existent, being fairly anarcho-capitalist, but having majority conservative within the population.

Culture
Memes and Internet
The basis of the project was built off of memes and internet culture, with members of the original project naming it "Memeland" and recognizing actor Keanu Reeves as their leader, even though he had nothing to do with the project. As the nation is run through a Discord server and Reddit, many memes, jokes, and icons come and influence the culture and ideas of the people running and living in the nation.
