The Socialist Republic of Brittany (French: République Socialiste de Bretagne) referred by its abbreviation as SRB was a self-declared country,[a] commonly known as a micronation by external observers, located in the European nation of France. It had existed beetween 2020 and 2022.
It was a one-party socialist republic, with the General Secretary of the Communist Party being the de jure and de facto Head of State and highest political office within the nation. The General Secretary also concurrently holds the office of the President of the Republic. The legislature is unicameral with the Supreme Council.
Introduction
The Socialist Republic of Brittany was established in March 2020, during the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic in France by Florian Corre, who has been serving as the General Secretary of the Communist Party since the establishment of the nation.
It aims to offer a new experience to young people. This micronation is based on the socialist principles of work and equality. It allows young people to discover how a state works, and also helps to learn to function as a team. The State offers a space for reflection on the history of the workers' movement in the world, and on the history of the communist countries that the world has known. It specifies that it absolutely does not support the massacres, executions, deportations perpetrated by the communist regimes, and that this micronation is only intended to offer a new experience to young people.
The nation claims its territories to be located in the French region of Brittany.
Government and Politics
The Socialist Republic of Brittany has a comprehensive government system and a constitution, which describes the nation to be a One-party socialist republic with the General Secretary of the Communist Party holding the executive and highest office in the nation, alongside being President of the Republic. The President serves as the executive head of state of the nation. The current General Secretary is Florian Corre who has been serving in office since the establishment of the nation.
Communist Party of Brittany
When the SRB was founded, the ruling party was then called the "PCTB", or "Parti Communiste des Travailleurs Bretons" in French. On 21/11/2020, the party was renamed "PCB", or " Parti Communiste Breton".
Youth organisation
Its youth organization was founded on 17/10/2020, under the name "UJCB" in French, for "Union des jeunesses Communistes de Bretagne" (or the "Union of Young Communists of Brittany" in english) This organization also leads the pioneer movement founded on 20/02/2021.
Instability period
The country experienced a period of instability between November 29, 2020 and January 27, 2021. The transitional government was dissolved by Florian Corre, who officially became President of the Republic on the same day. The official announcement was posted on SRB's Twitter account.
