Theodian claims every 6mo from foundation

This article details all of Theodia's territorial claims, both past and present. Theodia believes in the importance of colonizing the far-reaches of the Earth, and always maintains at least one colonization-target. It automatically claims any lands it has chosen for colonization.
This article was current as of 2016, October.

South Cape, near where Theodia plans to build its first city.

In an effort to increase its perceived legitimacy and to select a more realistic land-claim, Theodia in 2015-06-?? revoked its previous claims and staked out a new claim in eastern Greenland, comprising the majority of Jameson's Land, the northern third of Liverpool's Land, and the southern portions of Stauning's Alps. Theodia later revoked this claim in 2015-12-19 alongside internal devolutional reforms, citing concerns with sea-ice coverage during certain parts of the year; but later reinstated it on 2016's October 28 after the country changed the ways in which it handles claims, per the expectation that climate change would ameliorate most of the area's problems before it ever becomes realistic for Theodia to colonize something. It plans to locate the first Jameson's Land colony just off of Northeast Bay, near South Cape. Theodia has never yet exercised de facto control over this territory.
The claim comprises the northern portion of Scoresby's Sound, the largest fjord in the world. None of this territory has ever been successfully permanently settled by humans; the nearest permanent settlement is Ittoqqortoormiit on the southern tip of Liverpool's Land.
The area of the claim is relatively warm for its latitude, being moderated by the waters of Hall Bredning and shielded from the north wind by mountains. It is currently primarily a zone-2 tundra climate, the only plants being grasses, shrubs, and other such things. The Heden Plains of Jameson's Land are in particular potentially good pasture during the short summer months. As it is a tundra climate, the air is quite cold and dry, very rarely getting warm or wet enough for things like blizzards or hail to occur. The worst weather that is likely to happen is a medium snow or rain shower. As well, since it is a treeless plain, it is generally quite windy. The temperature only comes above freezing from May through August (less than four months of the year). Being north of the Arctic Circle, the area experiences polar night and the midnight sun, and is rather unique in that, should it be Theodia's first city, it would make Theodia both the only country in the world with a UTC-2 timezone, and the country with the northernmost capital in the world (displacing Greenland's Nuuk). The claim is actually situated almost exactly between the western and eastern hemispheres, though it has easier access to the eastern one. In particular, during the 3 or so ice-free months of the year, there is regular sea-access to Iceland, and Jan Mayen and Svalbard are also not far by sea. The waters of Hall Bredning, the branch of the fjord surrounded by the claim, contains icebergs formed by nearby glaciers year-round. The waters of the area, like those of any cold climate, are probably quite rich, being continually supplemented by upwelling.

History

The history of pre-Theodia Neapolita is somewhat obscured, but what is known about the region is that it was under the control of a group called the Sneaking Club in 2002. The club had reportedly vanished by 2005, and the land returned to the United States of America. Sometime around 2007, a new country project began, but very little is known about it. It is said that this mysterious civilization had constructed a fort to protect its borders, but after the micronation vanished, no one was left to maintain its fort, which fell-into disarray and was later removed by an American couple. Eventually, Swena founded what would become the Theodia that you know today. Naturally, Neapolita was ser first choice for Theodian land-claims, as this region is where se was domicile in the United States at the time of the country's founding. Se declared ser house the capitol building, and named the region around it "New Hope", declaring it the capital of Theodia. It was surrounded by the city of Naples, Florida in the United States, and Neapolita's flag's design was based upon that of the flag of the state of Florida.
Theodia later revoked its claim on Neapolita in mid-2015, as many Theodians had since left the area, and as Theodia felt that focusing its efforts upon a single claim, particularly a geographically contiguous and uninhabited one, would legitimize it more.

Resources
A pile of wood from Neapolita

During the time that it was a Theodian territory, pinewood could be found in the far west and far east, and of course had all the uses that one would expect of wood. Most of the land was fertile and good for farming, and Theodian farmers had taken advantage of Neapolita's warm, tropical climate to produce pineapples. Also in Neapolita were 11 lakes and one canal, the Golden River, which flowed all throughout the American city of Naples. This river could be seen in both the north, where it was connected to the largest lake in the region, Imperial Lake, and the south. This lake could be crossed to the north into the Imperial Area. Despite the large number of lakes in Neapolita, the water was unsafe to drink from as it had been contaminated by the golf course that operated it. There were several kinds of fish in the lakes, namely freshwater catfish, bluegills, and grass carps, which were often caught for sport.

Environmental Conditions

Because of its tropical climate, Neapolita did not experience seasons in the sense of winter, spring, summer, and autumn as much of the rest of the inhabited world does. Rather, there was just a dry season and a wet season, each taking-up about half the year. It has not snowed in the area of Neapolita in over 10,000 years.

  • Dry Season
    • Winter: Very little rain, no snow, many deciduous trees still green or starting to change colours, some difference in day-length, frost relatively rare, less insects, no hurricanes, a few very tropical plants freeze
    • Spring: Little rain, no snow, deciduous trees regain leaves, frost non-existent, no hurricanes
  • Wet Season
    • Summer: Rain very often, hurricanes, some plants fry, little difference in day-length, more insects
    • Autumn: Occasional rain, few hurricanes, deciduous trees still green

Most buildings in Neapolita were kept at around 75 °F or so. Air-conditioning was, in practice, almost mandatory for Neapolitan citizens, and heating as seen in the north was exceedingly rare, with many homes heated solely by the air-conditioner in "winter".
The equinoxes were more popular than the solstices in Neapolita because the equinoxes were the times when the conditions were most moderate, and because the winter and summer solstices differed in length by only four and a half hours, as opposed to how it is in climates in the north.
The growing-season was virtually year-round, with only a few days in January being too cold to really grow anything.

Amstria

The flag of Amstria

Amstria, previously known as the "South-Eastern Island-Province", known to most as Île Amsterdam, was claimed by Theodia very early-on in its history, that being sometime in 2010. Theodia later revoked its claim in mid-2015.
Île Amsterdam has a mild, oceanic climate, with a mean annual temperature of 13 °C, rainfall of 1100mm, persistent westerly winds, and high levels of humidity.[2]

Nordia

Nordia was a Theodian province located at several locations around Crooked Lake in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. The land has been in Swena, the former quing's, family for nearly a century. Theodia claimed this land in 2011, and later revoked its claim in mid-2015.

Karia

Karia, located at Tinnakara, Lakshadweep, India, was claimed by Theodia on 2013-07-15,[3] and later revoked in mid-2015.
Tinnakara is host to an oceanic tropical climate, and is considered quite similar to Theodia's hearth, Neapolita, which is located next to the Floridian Everglades. It has a dry and wet season, with temperatures fairly level throughout the year. Day length also does not change greatly with the seasons. It is unused and uninhabited as of 2015.
