The President of Mooneron is the head of state in the Republic of Mooneron. The president also sits as the chief executive as well as the commander-in-chief of any established and organised national armed forces. The president is advised by the cabinet, who are appointed by the president.
History
The office of president is the oldest established office in Mooneron. It was established on 27 August 2022.
Powers and Duties
Legislature
As head of state, the president by convention may propose legislation to parliament. As well as this the president may pass executive orders and decrees, enacting laws independent of parliament.
The president also is required to give all laws ascent before they can become law.
Appointing the Cabinet
The president is required to appoint all cabinet ministers including the Chancellor. The chancellor typically nominates a vice chancellor and other ministers that the president then approves and appoints.
Appointing Senators
The president has the full right to appoint senators as the officeholder sees fit. Senators are typically nominated for their seat by their party but the official appointment lies with the president.
