Overview

The People's Republic of Karukan is a self declared nation consisting of Southern Parts of the Long Island Peninsula, Northern Tip of Cape Cod and multiple overseas territories. Karukan declared independence on the 13th of June, 2020 after a violent revolution that lasted for two months

History

On May 20, the founder of Karukan began the uprising of the nation. At first it started with small protests but slowly evolved to the point where the nation began defending its proclaimed borders maliciously. War was declared on May 25 and all roads that crossed into Karukan were blocked off. The war started off with the advantage given to the Karukan army who's strength was underestimated by the New York Militia. The Jamaica Bay Islands were annexed first followed by the Long Beach Barrier Island. By June 7, New York Militias were brought in larger quantities pushed into Northern Coney Island.

On June 10, the Karukan army reached Jones Beach Island as well as the surrounding islands. Few Karukan were left to defend Long and Jones Beach as the majority left back to protect the capital. Starting on June 9, the capital was put under siege for two whole weeks by the New York Army. Hearing of this, supporters of the Karukan revolution in Boston took hold of Northern Cape Cod, a military base that was resupplying the siege. On June 13, the Karukan Declaration of Independence was written and signed, announcing the official separation of Karukan from the United States.

By now, supplies for the New York Army was running low and the morale of the surrounding neighborhoods were low as well. On June 21, the Bahamas announced they supported the independence of Karukan and gifted the island of Samana Cays, that same day the siege of Brighton Beach was lifted and the New York Army was forced to retreat. It had been one month since the start of the conflict and Karukan was still at war with New York so on June 31, officials from both sides met and started drafting the Brighton Treaty of 2020.

The treaty stated that Karukan would be recognized as a sovereign state and all territories it had annexed would be given to them as well as the Johnson Atoll as war reparation by the U.S. The Karukan on the other hand would have its EEZ denied by the U.S. as Karukan was located entirely inside U.S. waters. This was the reason as to why Karukan annexed Gillock Island later on as it expanded their EEZ. The Bahamas while allowing Karukan to have Samana Cays, would also not allow Karukan to use the island as a way to expand its EEZ. The treaty finished talks on July 12 and on July 20, after two months of conflicts, both sides came together to sign the Treaty. At exactly 12:00:00pm, the Karukan Revolutionary War ended.

Territories

Karukan consists of the two main provinces of North Cape Cod and the Outer Barrier. North Cape Cod is the newest Karukan territory that has been upgraded to province status. The Outer Barrier province contains the capital, Brighton Beach, as well as dozens of small islands. The territories of Kurukan consist of Samana Cays, Johnson Atoll, and the antarctica claim of Gillock Island. Together this brings the nations land area up to 268.3 mi².

Samana Cays is an uninhabited island in the Bahamas where it is believed Christopher Columbus first landed in the Americas. It was given by the Bahamas during the Karukan revolution. The island is used for the farming of cascarilla bark.

The Johnson atoll is defunct military base used by the U.S during WWII and the Cold War. Annexed during the revolution, the atoll is now in the possession of Karukan but since the place is contaminated with plutonium from the multiple nuclear tests conducted, the site is restricted from visiting. It is currently being used as a station for the national defense system.

Lastly, the Gillock Island is a island off the coast of Antarctica. The island is being used as a Antarctica research station.

Military

The Karukan Military is comprised of 5 infantry regiments, 3 regiments at Outer Barrier, and 2 at Cape Cod. This gives the Karukan military size at 25,000 personnel. The nation also has a combined manpower of 150,000 and in the event of war, drafting is used. The Kurkan military also contains 3 aviation regiments stationed at the Floyd Bennett Field (a airstrip in the Outer Barrier), the Johnson Atoll airbase and Cape Cod's Provincetown Airport. Lastly, the Navy of Karukan is stationed at the Bahamas, Johnson Atoll, Cape Cod and the Outer Barrier.

As mentioned before, the nation also set up a radar defense system at Johnson Atoll to warn of any threats incoming.
