The Osme Free State was part of the Kingdom of Northwood-Oregon |
The Osme Free State was a member state and sovereign claim of the Kingdom of Northwood-Oregon. It was founded on 1 November 2020 originally as a member state by its former Oriel Space and is located on Navy Island in Ontario, Canada. It was notable for having the first leader that is not an American national, for being the first member state that claimed land outside of the original macronation of the Kingdom of Northwood-Oregon, and for being the first member state to have a non-royal leader. It was dissolved as a member state on 24 December 2020 after its leader abdicated, it remained, however, as a sovereign claim of the Kingdom until 13 August 2021.
Etymology
The Osme Free State's name came from the misspelling of the word some by Space. It was agreed by both him and Carson that the name sounded acceptable, leading to its adoption.
History
Foundation
The Osme Free State was founded by Oriel Space on 1 November 2020. It was created with the intention of becoming a highly democratic member state of the Kingdom of Northwood-Oregon, a far cry from the absolute monarchies that made up the rest of the members. While the distance was originally thought to be a problem, it was agreed that the connection between Osme and the rest of the Kingdom mainland would be minimized by water connection between the Niagara River and Lake Erie.
Dissolution as a Member State
On 24 December 2020, after being confronted for his inactivity in the Kingdom, Space abdicated his position of Oriel of the Osme Free State. It was soon after declared that the Kingdom would be maintaining its claims of ownership over the Osme Free State for potential future colonial use.
Relinquishment of Sovereign Land claim
On 13 August 2021, the Sovereign Land Revisiting Bill was passed by the Northwood-Oregonian Parliament. This bill reaffirmed the claim of Turtle Island, which was made before the formation of the parliament and would then be visited a day later during the Second Turtle Island Expedition, and relinquished the claim over Osme under the guise of it being unreachable and lacking a local government.[1]
