The Most Distinguished Order of the Territorial Crown (Hindi: दर्ज़ह अति विशिष्ट नगर मुकुट, Darjah Ati Vishisht Nagara Mukuta) is the highest and sole order of chivalry of the federal territories of Vishwamitra, which include the Vishwamitran Overseas Territories and the crown dependencies. The order was constituted on 26 May 2023 by Dhrubajyoti Roy, Rashtradhyaksh of Vishwamitra as the head of the territories on the advice of the Administratorial Council. The order is conferred only on eminent personalities and foreign personages who have rendered the highest level of services and dedication to the welfare and progress of the territories.
Upon the creation of the Order of the Territorial Crown, the Order of Swevalis which was the sole territorial order, became dormant and hence no further inductions were made.
History
The first-ever territorial order to be created was the Order of Chandril which was constituted on 30 November 2020 for the special administrative territory of Chandril on the advice of its administrator Chandrachur Basu. Following the expulsion of the Chandril in February 2021, the order ceased to exist. In the following times, some other territories constituted their own honours system which with time became extinct. In September 2021, the Order of Swevalis for Swevalis was created which has since then been the sole territory to have its own honours system.
The idea for a common territorial order can be traced back to late 2022 when the idea was introduced to the Administratorial Council by the Rashtradhyaksh. The idea was originally supported by a few members and opposed by the Administrator of Swevalis. Later, the provision was re-introduced before the council in May 2023 when the idea was supported by all the members. Finally, on 26 May, the creation of the order was formally decreed.
