The November 2021 Pinangese Presidential Election was the fifth presidential election in Pinang. The Presidential Election will took place on 6 and 7 November 2021. Esty Carpentieri of PEDEM had been elected President with 61.4% of the vote, while the incumbent national president Tobey Wyles obtained 31.6% and the former prime minister Giuseppe Mazzini received 7%.

Background

Under Article 23 of the Constitution of Pinang, the President is elected to a four-months term in a two-round election. If no candidate takes 50.1% of votes in the first round, a second round is held a week later between the two candidates who received the most votes. If in the second round there is a tie, according to the constitution, the presidential term is divided in half between the two candidates.

Esty Carpentieri was elected with 100% of the votes as presidential nominee for the Pinangese Socialist Alliance on October 3, 2021, while his opponent Daniel Quintero got 0%.

  • Daniel Quintero (DEUS): Quintero is the incumbent Speaker of the Senate. He describes himself as a libertarian eco-socialist.

Dropped Out

  • Fabian (Workers Party): Fabian was member of the Carpentieri and Marquez shadow cabinets as Shadow Minister of Economy and Labour between July and August 2021. On 31 August 2021 he was appointed Minister of Economy and Labour by the Prime Minister Esty Carpentieri. Fabian is part of the communist faction of the Pinangese Socialist Alliance. On 26 September 2021 he retired from the race and endorsed Esty Carpentieri.

Other Candidates

On September 24, 2021, the leader of the communist party Socialism and Freedom announced his candidacy for president. Subsequently, 4 days later he retired from the race. A similar episode was the candidacy of Manuel Tico, Pinangese Ambassador to the Philippines and co-founder of the Unionist Party (along with Nafiz Morshalin), who announced his candidacy on 5 October 2021, to later drop out from the election and endorse Tobey Wyles on 13 October.
