-->Newark Transit Center or simply as Newark is a commuter rail station in Newark, Lackawanna. The station provides access to downtown Newark and was created as part of the city commuter project. The station is located half a block from city hall and many office buildings are located adjacent to the station. All non shuttle Coastal trains service Newark Transit Center.
History
Newark Transit Center was built as part of the $500 million City Commuter project, which re-constructed an existing right of way between the Newark Penn station and a freight yard in downtown Newark. The Newark Transit Center was constructed at the end of the line's extension. The station was original planned to be called Downtown–City Hall. The station opened on March 16, 2005.
Station layout
Newark Transit Center is one of the main rail stations in the Greater Newark Area. The station has 4 island platforms and 1 side platform with a total of 9 passenger tracks and 1 siding. The station contains a large ticket office in the main station building along with many shops and restaurants.
