Fmr. Lord Gilbert of Essexia is the current Chief Data Controller, a former Minister of the Interior and a former Minister of Health in the Commonwealth of Essexia. He was previously a Lord in the Parliament of Essexia for the Royalist Party and the Old Guard Party, and was a member of the Turning Point Essexia party until he retired from politics due to the requirement of impartiality in his current position. He joined Essexia in early 2019 and he has since been an active member holding multiple positions in politics, as well as being a ranking member of the Essexian Army.

Throughout his political carrier Matthew was an active politician and as such has been a part of multiple political upheavals, including the events of the Black Weekend, Raging Valentines, and Snakey Saturday. As a Lord in the Parliament of Essexia Matthew began by holding the position of Health Minister and occupied a conservative position, supporting legislature that strengthened the military, and, during his time as a royalist, supporting the strength of the Emperor, and the royalty. After the election on the 1st to the 3rd of March 2020 he lost his seat in parliament, and after a period in which he held no position, he was approached by Earl Jamie, and the now disgraced Lord Jack, regarding an opportunity to take the place of Lord Matthew as the Minister of the Interior. Matthew accepted the post and during his short tenure was one of the most active ministers, creating the most accurate Citizenship Register Essexia had previously seen, and beginning the creation of the Data protection and Regulation Act 2020, the largest act placed before parliament and establishing the position of Chief Data Controller.
