The Margraviate of Mistak (French: Margraviat de Mistak) was a Margraviate under the protection of the Maritime Republic of The Damariscotta and was founded on the 15th of June 2021. Mistak developed out of Minecraft micronationalism in 2016 It derived its name from the name of the former Kingdom of Mistak.

The House of Masquemus came to the throne of Mistak in 2015, under the name of Farmia. The nation was a Kingdom until it merged with Timberia in November of 2018 to form the Federation of Mistak-Timberia. By end of November 2018, the nation became Misberia and enjoyed years of prosperity until the collapse of the Misberian Confederacy in February 2021.

History

Exploration Era

The islands had been inhabited by the Inuit in the past; remains of their dwellings were found by Clements Markham in August 1851. The Carey Islands' were named by the 1616 Bylot-Baffin Arctic expedition after Allwin Carey, one of the financiers of the venture. Swedish naturalists Alfred Björling and Evald Kallstenius stopped at the Carey Islands in 1892 during an expedition on schooner Ripple to pick up supplies at a cache there. The Ripple, however, was driven on shore and wrecked. The men attempted to sail a small sloop back to Etah, but were forced to return to the Carey Islands. In June 1893, the crew of the Scottish whaler Aurora spotted a wreck on the Carey Islands. They found the Ripple, a man's body buried under a pile of stones, and Björling's letters. No trace of the other four men, or the small boat, was ever found.

Proto and Misberian Era

Mistak was originally founded under the name Farmia on 15 April 2015, and was mainly based in the Xbox 360 version of the sandbox video game Minecraft. Farmia underwent several changes between April and February 2016, before it changed its name to Mistak. Mistak remained isolationist and was not involved with the wider intermicronational community, until it met the nation of Timberia at Camp Roosevelt in Maine. Following many political talks, the Treaty of Roosevelt was signed on June 2018, and the nations merged to form the Federation of Mistak-Timberia on the 20 November 2018. Three days later, the name was changed to Misberia. The nation thrived until February 2021 and was dissolved, was soon revived as the Maritime Republic of The Damariscotta as the successor to Misberia.

Government

As a state that was an absolute monarchy, there is no legislature or complete government. The head of the government and state was known as the Margrave, the only Margrave was Archie Birch. The Margrave had the right to pass any legislation they wish, appoint any positions they wish and has ultimate power over the nation. Each county had no power given to it, the nation was classified as unitary.

Administrative Divisions

Mistak was comprised of seventeen islands, located in the Carey Islands in Greenland. None of the islands are inhabited, nor are any of them possible of habitation.

The smallest piece of Mistak land, Dania Islet, was a islet located off the coast of Dacia Islet and Lappia Island located in the County of Leptis Magna. The largest area in Mistak was the island of Borussia, located in the County of Lixus. Most administrative divisions consisted of a small collection of islands and islets.

Mistak was divided into Counties (Lixus, Leptis Magna, Motya and Nora) and Communes (Huanbei, Miran and Avon Praze Vali). Counties were uninhabited and fully incorporated into the Margraviate, and are lead by a Count or Countess. Communes are autonomous areas, with Mistak law not automatically applying to them unless specified in the legislation; however, they fall under Mistak sovereignty and are administered directly by the Margrave, with power to define their own internal legislation, culture and symbolism (with representatives of the Margrave known as a Lord or Lady usually being appointed).

Culture

Picture of a Pharaonic calendar

The culture of Mistak could have been defined as being fluid in inspiration from throughout human history, mainly from the ancient civilizations such as, Rome, Egypt, China and the Phoenicians, the nation has seen newer cultures and communities influence it, such as the Cornish culture in the Ladyship of Avon Praze Vali.

Pharaonic Calendar

The ancient Pharaonic Calendar is a solar calendar with a 365-day year. The year consists of three seasons of 120 days each, plus an intercalary month of five epagomenal days treated as outside of the year proper. Each season is divided into four months of 30 days. These twelve months were initially numbered within each season but have become to be also known by the names of their principal festivals. Each month is divided into three 10-day periods known as decans or decades, with every fourth year adding a day to make up for the lost day as the calendar is one day short of the solar calendar.

Language

The languages spoken within the nation vary wildly as the many cultures and civilizations being studied result in a mixture of languages being used for differing purposes. The main languages were English and French with Cornish and Latin being recognized as minor languages of the nation. Language in the nation was less focused on the idea of communication, but more of the focus on understanding past languages to understand and study the history of the culture and topics that were written down.
