The 1st Mahusetan presidential and prime ministerial election took place place during the period of the 3rd to the 4th of January 2018, following a decision made by the Lazian Chamber, with the date marking the second anniversary of the Confederation of Mahuset. The election marked the first democratic election in Mahusetan history, not counting various referenda during the Royal Unity of Mahuset and the Confederation of Mahuset.
Campaign and candidates
Classical Liberal Party
The Classical Liberal Party nominated Emiel Sebastiaan Hardy, president of both the Classical Liberal Party and the Confederation of Mahuset, as its nominee for the Presidential Election. The CLP originally did not forward any candidates for Prime Minister, Stephen Freayth however offered to run for prime minister with the leadership of the Classical Liberal Party agreeing on letting him run.
Social Democrats and Pirates
The Socialist Democratic Party was the second party to release its candidate for the Presidency, shortly following the announcement of the Classical Liberal Candidate, the candidate being XO. The Pirates announced its candidate for Prime Minister shortly after, its candidate being Memberry. Both parties shortly following each other's announcements, announced the creation of a coalition between the two parties, despite several important differences in the politics of the party.
