The Honorary Ambassador of Vishwamitra in Romania (Hindi: रोमानिया में विश्वामित्र के मानद राजदूत‎, Romanian: Ambasador onorific al Vishwamitrei în România) is an officer of the honorary diplomatic corps of Vishwamitra who serves as the head of the honorary diplomatic mission of Vishwamitra in Romania. The diplomat holds the rank of an Honorary Ambassador who is appointed by the Rashtradhyaksh and remains in office at the pleasure of the Rashtradhyaksh and during their tenure in office, they represent the crown and the government of Vishwamitra in Romania and is responsible to cater the interests of the non-residential (overseas) citizens of Vishwamitra residing in Romania or are of Romanian origin.

As the recognition of Romania by Vishwamitra is not reciprocated and not bilateral, Vishwamitra maintains an honorary embassy in the country as compared to a full-fledged mission which are, in contrary, only accredited to mutually recognized nations (the micronations).

The ambassador in Romania is also concurrently accredited as the non-resident ambassador in the Republic of Moldova.

History

Flag of Romania

The position of the ambassador was first created on 30 December 2020 along with the creation of a full-fledged mission. The first ambassador was Tudor Alessandro who served in office until his honourable dismissal on 5 February 2021. Upon his dismissal, Cristian Dobrev was appointed as the ambassador who further remained in office until his own removal on 22 September 2021. Ested Vlasyn, was thereupon appointed as the ambassador and later also served as the Minister of External Affairs during his tenure. He served in office until his own resignation in March 2022.

Following the resignation of Ested Vlasyn on 15 March 2022, former Prime Minister Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu and then serving Rajyapal of Basistha, was appointed as the Ambassador to Romania with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Moldova. In a cabinet decision, the regular diplomatic missions accredited to macronations which are unilaterally recognized by Vishwamitra were reorganized to honorary status on 8 May 2023. Thereupon, the status of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Romania was changed to the position of that of an Honorary Ambassador. Snagoveanu has since continued to serve as honorary ambassador in Romania.

Responsibilities

The honorary ambassador serves as the principal representative of the crown of Vishwamitra and the government in Romania and is responsible to cater the interests of the non-residential (overseas) citizens of Vishwamitra residing in Romania or are of Romanian origin. The ambassador is also responsible to present the policies of the government of Vishwamitra to the citizens and report the policies of the Romanian government to the Vishwamitran government and the crown. The ambassador also oversees the diplomatic activity and is often responsible for overseeing the trade and cultural relations between Vishwamitra and Romania.

The ambassador has concurrently been accredited as the non-resident ambassador in Moldova since 15 March 2022.
