History

The State of Vishwamitra first officially recognised the Hellenic Republic as a sovereign state on 1 January 2017 with the grant of official recognition to other states by a presidential decree issued by then Acting President Sarala Baishya on the recommendation of the government headed by Prime Minister Varuna Sriraya.

On 3 February 2021, the diplomatic mission in the Hellenic Republic was officially established through a royal decree. Alcibiades Ionian was formally appointed as the first Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic thereupon. Unlike most other diplomatic missions, the embassy in Greece was not located in the capital city until recently when the embassy was moved to the city of Athens. At the time of inception, it was located in Larissa and later to Agrinio, which currently serves as a Consulate-General.
