Knightly Orders of the Kingdom of Kirkland

The Knightly Orders of Kirkland are the heraldic orders to which a Knight belongs in Kirkland. The orders are divided into 3 groups: Orders of the First Degree, Orders of the Second Degree, Orders of the Third Degree. People who are members of knightly orders are awarded the title of Knight and are allowed to be called Sir/Dame and may put the post-nominal letters of the order or orders to which they belong after their name.

Orders of the First Degree

Order of the Golden Eagle

The Order of the Golden Eagle is the highest honor the Emperor of Kirkland can bestow. The members of the Order of the Golden Eagle is limited to the Sovereign, the 1st Prince Imperial, and no more than 10 other members. Those who are members of this order are actually placed above Hereditary Barons in the peerage of Kirkland. The Order of the Golden Eagle is awarded at the pleasure of the Emperor and can be taken away. Members of this Order are typically individuals who are very close to the Emperor and are either personal councilors or friends of the Sovereign. Post-nominal letters are KGE

Order of the Blue Garter

The Order of the Blue Garter is a Knightly Order of the First Degree. It is typically given to individuals who have rendered significant service to the Sovereign or Imperial Family. Post-nominal letters are KBG

Order of the White Stag

The Order of the White Stag is a Knightly Order of the First Degree. It is given to individuals that have rendered significant services to the nation of Kirkland. Distinguished civil servants are one of the typical members of this Order. Post-nominal letters are KWS

Orders of the Second Degree

Order of Saint Michael

The Order of Saint Michael is a Knightly Order of the Second Degree. It is given to members of the Kirkish military who go above and beyond the call of duty. The members of this order have distinguished themselves with heroic activity in war. The criteria for admittance into this order are very stringent. One must have demonstrated extreme courage on the battlefield that may have caused, or in some cases did cause, the death of the member and have the event corroborated by no less than three other service members, one of which must be a commissioned officer. This order is the only order named after a saint, Saint Michael, who is the patron saint of soldiers. This order is also unique is it issues the title of Knight Grand Cross rather than just Knight. Orders of the Third Degree

Order of the Silver Horn

The Order of the Silver Horn is a Knightly Order of the Third Degree. It is awarded to people who have contributed significantly to the culture of Kirkland. Artist and musicians are the normal members but authors would also be included. Post-nominal letters are KSH

Order of Merit

The Order of Merit is a Knightly Order of the Third Degree. It is awarded to members of the military who have distinguished themselves in war. The difference between this order and the Order of Saint Michael is that this order doesn't have as stringent criteria. To be admitted a service member must act valiantly on the battlefield and have the even corroborated by two other service members of any rank. Post-nominal letters are KM
