Stony Brook, officially the Kingdom of Stony Brook, is a federal state of the United Kingdoms of Greater Islip located on the campus of Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York.

Eyptmology

Stony Brook derives its name from the university and hamlet of the same name. According to Wikipedia, the hamlet of Stony Brook was known as Wopowog before and during the initial years of European colonization, but was eventually renamed to Stoney Brook, with both names "likely referring to the interconnected bodies of water at the hamlet's western edge."[1] The name was subsequently modified to Stony Brook, which remains in use to this day.

History

Along with the other states of Greater Islip, Stony Brook was established on 20 December 2021 through the Declaration of Micronational Sovereignty of the United Kingdoms of Greater Islip.[2]

Politics

The Kingdom of Stony Brook is an absolute monarchy loosely modeled on the feudal monarchies of the High Middle Ages, with stylistic influences from Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. Executive, legislative, and judicial authority is vested in the King of the Seawolves (Peter I), who exercises such authority with the assistance of the Small Council (the equivalent of a combined privy council and cabinet).[3] Members of the Small Council are directly appointed by the monarch and serve at his pleasure, the most senior of them holding the title "Hand of the King," which is roughly analogous to a head of government.[4]

Relationhip with the federal government

Stony Brook is one of four states in the United Kingdoms of Greater Islip, so the Crown of Stony Brook has authority over all matters not reserved for the Federal Government. Foreign affairs, defense, and the minting of currency, for example, are exclusively reserved for the Federal Government under the Greater Islipian constitution.[5] Although Stony Brook possesses significant autonomy under Greater Islip's federal system of government, it regularly collaborates with the Federal Government on matters of national importance. As part of Greater Islip's federal setup, the King of the Seawolves and all members of the Small Council concurrently serve on the High Council of Greater Islip, the United Kingdoms' primary decision-making body. The King of the Seawolves is also in line to succeed as "High King of the Greater Islipians," Greater Islip's federal head of state.

Culture

Like other states in Greater Islip, Stony Brook fuses cultural and political themes from the High Middle Ages, Game of Thrones, and A Song of Ice and Fire to form the basis of its cultural identity. Since most of its members attend Stony Brook University, it has also adopted the traditions there as its own.

Religion

Stony Brook is the only Greater Islipian state with a state religion. The Royal Charter of Stony Brook establishes the Church of the Great Seawolf as the kingdom's state church.[6] The Church is headed by the monarch of Stony Brook, who bears the title "Supreme Governor of the Church of the Great Seawolf."[7] However, most administrative affairs are overseen by the High Septan of the Church, a position roughly comparable to the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Church of England.[8] Religious affairs are dictated by convention, with the "Guide to Wolfieism and the Church of the Great Seawolf" acting as a de facto summary of the Church's beliefs and structure.[9]

Geography and climate

Stony Brook is located on the campus of Stony Brook University, located in the hamlet of Stony Brook, NY. Specifically, Stony Brook occupies the academic mall that runs through the center of campus. In terms of climate, Stony Brook's climate is similar to that of other localities on Long Island.
