The Kingdom of Mevora, commonly known as Mevora, is a self-declared sovereign state often known as a micronation by external observers. Located in Europe claiming an island near East Timor, the kingdom claims about 8 km2 of land. Mevora is a unitary semi-constitutional monarchy.

The capital and largest city is Artaka, and the national language is English.

History

Mevora was founded on 18 July 2023 by its first King - Theodore I. Its first formation was as an absolute monarchy, until the ratification of the constitution in which the monarch's powers were capped at executive powers instead of absolute.

Government and Politics

As Mevora's full name suggests, the nation is governed under a monarchy. Mevora is a unitary state and is governed as a semi-constitutional monarchy which creates dual executives - with executive power being held by the monarch and the prime minister.

Monarchy

The monarchy sits as Mevora's head of state. Under the Mevoran constitution the monarch wields significant power granted as the Royal Prerogative. Their power includes the ability to dissolve parliament, appoint and dismiss a government ands as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Mevora sits as the head of government. By constitutional convention, they are usually the leader of the party with the most seats in the House of Commons.

The prime minister sits as a member of the legislature and head of the executive branch of government. They chair the cabinet and nominate its ministers. They also advise the monarch and guide the legislative process in government. The prime minister is appointed by the monarch and serves officially at their pleasure.

The prime minister is supported by the Office of the Prime Minister, which is an office in the cabinet.

The prime minister can appoint up to two deputies - the Deputy Prime Minister and/or the First Secretary of State. Officially the Deputy Prime Minister is deputy head of government.

Parliament

Parliament is designated by the constitution as the legislative body of the kingdom. It is bicameral consisting of a House of Lords as the upper house, and a House of Commons as the lower house. The House of Lords is an appointed house and the House of Commons is an elected house. Elections happen up to every five years and sessions last for one year. Elections are carried out using first past the post.

The Mevoran government is constitutionally required to originate from one of the Houses of Parliament to keep them accountable and to ensure the government has confidence from the public and in legislating.

Military

The Armed Forces of Mevora serve as the military forces of the kingdom. The monarchy serves as commander-in-chief. The armed forces are made up of three branches - the Mevoran Army, Royal Mevoran Air Force and His Majesty's Naval Service (consisting of the Royal Mevoran Navy and Royal Mevoran Marines).

The armed forces is overseen by the Chief of the Defence Staff and Ministry of Defence and have not been involved in any conflicts.

Geography

The kingdom claims Jaco Island - located near East Timor. The nation aims to develop and populate the island for the nation's use.

Jaco Island is about 8 km2 and has been claimed by Mevora since 19 July 2023.

Culture

Mevoran culture is inspired by aspects of a range of cultures. National values of Mevora include integrity, hard work and loyalty. The monarchy also serves a cultural role as well as political role. The monarch sits as the ultimate representative of the kingdom, its people and its values.
