Frivia, officially the Kingdom of Frivia (ᚲᛁᚾᛕᛨᚮᛘ ᚮᚠ ᚠᚱᛁᚡᛁᛆ), is a landlocked, North American micronation with many international holdings. The precursor state that eventually became Frivia was originally an idea taken up by American communists in 1924, at the height of the Great Depression. The Crown currently owns land in Finland, Crimea (disputed by the Russian Federation) and the continental United States. The Kingdom is known for its optimistic values, voluntary military service, a forested and arable landscape, its highly advanced education system and a foreign volunteer army which outnumbers those of Libya, Antigua and Barbuda, Iceland and Haiti. The current exchange rate of the Frivian Mark is $1 USD-𐍆5.625.
History
Frivia was formed originally as the Old Forge Free State in the year 1924, when the Great Depression saw America's economy in a slump with no end in sight. After the labor reforms of late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, however, the idea of a communist utopia in Upstate New York was shelved. While originally an armed separatist group, the Free State dissolved and led to the establishment of a monarchy, almost 100 years later.
Pre-Royal History
During the height of the Great Depression during the mid to late 1920s, the idea of a communist utopia had been developed, as an alternative to the seemingly ineffective reforms of President Herbert C. Hoover. This separatist state became known as the Old Forge Free State. After its formation, the Free State was leaderless, causing a political crisis over the course of 1924-41. When the United States of America issued a declaration of war against Japan, the Free Staters had dissolved their "country" and rejoined the United States, under the promise of redistributing state forest land.
World War II
When the United States entered the second World War on the side of the Allies, pro-Axis sympathies swept over the Adirondack region. To counter this, the State of New York promised land grants to any man in the region willing to fight for the Allied cause (this would later prove to be a mistake during the McCarthy era). Many citizens of the Free State volunteered for the United States Army Air Forces, with a substantial proportion being stationed at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, New York (starting from 1942). With the advantages of being on the Home Front and having the experience of World War I pilots at the base, the "Free Staters" were payed very well. The OFFS continued to support the Army Air Force until the state's dissolution after the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945.
Monarchist Reformation
When consulted about the Great Depression, a local historical society in Central New York had revealed to the future King that the Adirondacks used to be a breakaway state. This information, along with a crash course in micronationalism had compelled the current king to found a micronation in his backyard. The foundation of the Republic of Frivia was intended to be a inside joke among peers at school, but quickly escalated into something much more. As a parliamentary republic, Frivia was highly corrupt due to a shortage of people to serve in government, civil and military positions. A very costly civil war then ensued, bringing about the rule of Gustaf I, who was proclaimed Eternal King of the Crownlands of Frivia by a regency council on October 9, 2019.
