The Kingdom of Fellovia, more commonly known as Fellovia, is a micronation in The United States of America.
Fellovia is ruled via a constitutional monarchy, with an elected Prime Minister. The Parliament is currently unused due to the low number of citizens. Fellovia remains neutral on most issues that do not concern the citizens or safety of the nation.
Etymology
Fellovia was created by randomly selecting letters and adding "ia" to the end. The name Fellovia was chosen by the founders. The similarity to “Fell over ya [sic]” is often pointed out and is a common joke within the nation.
The demonym Fellove is sometimes used in addition to Fellovian, although the latter is more common, considered the more modern of the two, and is used on all government documentation.
History
Foundation
Fellovia was founded on 1 May 2020, now annually celebrated as Fellovia Day. The Cabinet of Ministers was established eight days later on 9 May 2020, forming the foundation for the government. The first Cabinet consisted of Prime Minister Michael Froggart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Charles Creamer, Minister of Finance Clara Stevens, and Minister of Defense McKay C (While some of these individuals were not appointed immediately to the cabinet, all of them were the first in their position). These individuals were referred to as the “founding four” until the Minister of Defense attempted to overthrow the government, when they became known as the “founding three”. Following the death of Prime Minister Froggart shortly after assuming the office of Prime Minister, the position was filled by Clara Stevens.
Constitutional Convention
In September 2021, the government decided to order the creation of a constitution. It is currently under revision.
The USRM Affair
On 8 March 2022, former Minister of Finance, McKay C was “asked” to attempt and initiate a coup d’état by a group of citizens (ostensibly himself writing for a nonexistent group). He briefly overthrew the government, instating the “Democratic Fellovian Republic” as a puppet of the the United States of The Rocky Mountains. Two days later, on 10 March, Minister of Defence, Charles Creamer assisted the legitimate government in re-establishing the monarchy.
Following the failed coup d'état, McKay C was stripped of his noble title and citizenship and expelled from Fellovia. After the failed coup, one USRM citizen revoked their citizenship.
After the expulsion of the Finance Minister, the USRM attempted to declare war on Fellovia; it was ignored by the Fellovian Government, following official policy. After an interlude of several months, the USRM renounced micronational war, and following a review of an application for citizenship by the Sovereign and His Majesty’s Government, it was deemed appropriate to restore his citizenship, however his noble title has not been restored.
Politics and government
The unused Parliament of Fellovia is designed to be the main legislative body, consisting of an appointed House of Lords and an elected House of Burgesses.
The duties of the Parliament are currently used by the Cabinet of Ministers, headed by the Prime Minister.
Elections for the Prime Minister (and theoretically Parliament) are held annually from 7-28 November.
Law and order
The main judicial body is the High Court appointed for life by the Sovereign upon recommendation of the Prime Minister.
Foreign relations
Fellovia exercises diplomatic relations with other nations, although it remains neutral on the majority of conflicts which do not directly affect the safety of the nation or citizens. Fellovia does not recognise any wars or conflicts of any other nations, including declarations of war (select conflicts are recognised very rarely)
Military
Fellovia has no standing military, instead relying on citizens enlisting in the Civilian Corps, a sort of reserve military which may be called up in a time of need. The civilian corps go kayaking, swimming, and fishing under the command of the Lord High Admiral, and hiking, gardening, and biking under the command of the Lord High Marshal.
Geography and climate
Fellovia is located in a traditionally snowy climate, but has been experiencing a severe drought for several years.
Most of Fellovia is a series of disconnected settlements entirely surrounded by the United States of America.
Culture and media
Fellovia is home to people of many cultures and has several regulations preventing discrimination based on or suppression of culture.
Fellovia’s state run newspaper, The Stentor, is the main source of government information and announcements for citizens.
