The Kingdom of Bärenland was an independent sovereign-state commonly known as a micronation that was unofficially established on the 12th of December, 2021 after it amicably seceded from the Kingdom of Nortenland. Bärenland was an absolute monarchy, with its King maintaining total and ultimate authority over the legislative and executive functions of the nation, as well as the supreme command over its military. Bärenland was made up of numerous staats, administrated by the King. Noblemen could be appointed to rule over staats under the banner of the King if the privilege was bestowed upon them, or if they offered their own land up to become a Bären staat. Bärenland rejoined Nortenland on the 27th of June, 2022 following an uptaking issued by the Kingdom of Nortenland.
Etymology
The name "Bärenland" was derived from the German word for "bear country". The black bear was the most prominent symbol of Bären identity.
History
Nortennish ryke
Bärenland originated as a ryke of the Kingdom of Nortenland in October 2021,[1] with King Adalhard I serving as the ryke's prince. Bärenland existed as a Nortennish Ryke until December 2021.
Nortennish Abdication Crisis and Declaration of Independence
On December 12, 2021, King Wolfric I of Nortenland, citing lack of interest in micronationalism, abdicated the Nortennish throne. The Nortennish Diet, including Adalhard, confirmed the legitimacy of King Baldwin I as Wolfric's successor, but quickly became disillusioned with his leadership. Bärenland declared independence from the Nortennish state[2] on the same day, and the newly-appointed King Frederick I permanently banned Adalhard from the Nortennish Discord server, refusing to recognize Bären independence and threatening military retaliation. After King Frederick was deposed, Adalhard would be admitted into the Nortennish Discord server again. Wolfric I would retake the throne shortly after in a peaceful transfer of power facilitated by Hunt Odovacar.
Official independence and recognition
In late December 2021, Nortenland, under Wolfric's leadership, would enter a period of isolation. On January 1, 2022, Adalhard issued an announcement reasserting Bären independence and official secession from Nortenland, as well as wishes of goodwill during their impending isolation period. Nortenland would officially recognize Bären independence.
Diplomacy
Bärenland maintained formal relations with the State of Faltree,[3] as well as the Kingdom of Nortenland and Commonwealth of Vandelland.[4]
