Jonathan, Hereditary Prince of North America (Jonathan Michael; born 6 March 1994), is the younger brother William, North American Emperor. He was briefly Emperor of the North American Confederation after his brother abdicated with no clear successor or abolition of the monarchy in 2011. When his brother retracted his abdication by reforming the NAC in 2015, he was acknowledged as Jonathan I and his brief reign recorded into the archive by the provisional government. Until the birth of his nephew Prince William in October 2014 he had been heir presumptive to the throne of the NAC from 2010 until 2011 and previously the throne of New Europe.

Role in the Micronational world

On a formal level, Prince Jonathan had no say in the day to day activities of New Europe or its monarchy. Throughout his brothers reign he had no children, making him heir presumptive for the time of the monarchy. He had shown interest in New Europe's economy and the policies that could be used. But the Emperor for a time denied him the right to speak openly to the Imperial Cabinet regarding any economic issues. This was later changed and he had expressed interest in New European politics but was never actively involved. The prince has since lost most interest in micronationalism but does acknowledge his position and duties in the event his brother dies. He is often an adviser to his brother on how to deal with issues of economic importance. Although his brother still lives and was for a time restored to the throne of New Europe it was voiced by former members of the North American Military that since both succession laws are the same for New Europe and the North American Confederation, Jonathan was now the rightful pretender to the North American crown. Although he was never acknowledged, the North American Confederation did continue for 11 days following his brothers abdication thus by law he was the legitimate successor.

When the NAC was restored Jonathan continued to be styled as a Prince of New Europe, as the provisional government held the monarchy to be a federal institution designated for the key members of the Imperial Family. Even though he is officially the second monarch in the nations history, his place in the line of succession denied him the right to use any title of North America. It was also because New Europe granted territorial distinction for the entire family while the NAC did not. This changed in late 2015 when the line of succession was formalized by a new Imperial House Law. This law proclaims him a Hereditary Prince of North America.

Marriage

Jonathan had been in a relationship with Amanda Downer, a high school classmate, since 2010. The couple became engaged in early 2018 and were married in a civil ceremony on August 17, 2019.
