The Ceticilian Parliamentary election, January 2021 was a regular Ceticilian Parliamentary election and the first one of 2021. Jordan Lord, long-time leader of the Geolibertarian Party lost his seat in this election cycle, the Ceticilian Ecological Union partook in its first election cycle as a party and a new citizen has been voted into Parliament a few days after being admitted.

Background

After Ceticilia had stagnated for a while and no elections were held, Parliament Member A. introduced bill CET 2021-005 as a means to restart the Ceticilian democratic process. Though originally this bill was criticized by Álvaro Barredo for being too routine, a resolution was quickly found in holding regular elections every half year, with special elections to hold the speakers accountable three months from each regular election. Parliamentary elections, it was decided, will take place each last weekend of January and July.

Act to reiterate and kickstart our democracy

I move that the next Parliamentary election with all seats for election be held the last weekend of January 2021-01-29--2021-01-31. There shall be elections for Members of Parliament every half year from that date. Those who are elected Speaker of the Parliament shall have a shortened term of three months. If re-elected they are not to automatically become speaker again. The election to speaker shall happen after each election. The process in which Parliamentary elections are held shall be approval voting. The President shall not be able to hold a seat in Parliament while assuming the office of President.

Rationale: Kickstart democratic process, make speakers responsible in their terms. Stability.

— A.

Before this election, the Parliament consisted out of one member of the Democratic Socialist Party of Ceticilia (Miguel Ceticiliam), one member of the Ceticilian Ecological Union (A.), one member of the Conservative Party of Ceticilia (Álvaro Barredo) and two members of the Geolibertarian Party of Ceticilia (Jordan Lord; Pablo Zumo)

Electoral system

The electoral system in use in this election was approval voting. Empty ballots were not counted into the turnout and there were no spoiled ballots. Those with the least amount of votes gathered below the cutoff - in this case: five Members of Parliament - are eliminated.

Results and Aftermath

In total, 14 votes were cast. A. was on every single ballot in this election. Pablo Zumo made second place with 10 votes, followed by Álvaro Barredo (8 votes), followed by Miguel Ceticiliam and Han Dülgeroğlu (7 votes each). The last place was made by Jordan Lord (6 votes) who lost his parliamentary seat.

Barredo and Dülgeroğlu leave

Not even a week into the current legislature period, on 6 February 2021, Álvaro Barredo (CPC) had left the Parliament of Ceticilia for personal reasons. Han Dülgeroğlu (DSP) left Ceticilia on 8 February 2021 making him lose his Parliamentary seat as well, leaving two vacancies as of 8 February 2021.
