The People’s Imperial Republic of Jalovaalea (Finnish: Jalovalean keisarillinen kansantasavalta), colloquially known as Jalovaalea, was formally founded at the beginning of the year 2007. Jalovaalea is an independent, sovereign state. It has never been subordinate to any other state.

Terminology

The people of Jalovaalea are jalovaaleans (Finnish: jalovaaleanainen), which can be roughly translated as the “noble and bright” people. Therefore, Jalovaalea is the “land of the noble and bright.”

The term Jalovaalea is a compound word coined by the current leader, Keisari Callo Sérevarno.

History

Jalovaalea is a very young nation-state, with a static population of about three citizens. The Emperor, or keisari in Finnish, was democratically elected among the people to create a sovereign nation that represented their ideals and desires.

Demographics

Jalovaalea is an extremely homogenuous nation. The current census shows that the population of Jalovaalea is 100% caucasian. Religiously, about 67% are Roman Catholic (34% practicing, 33% in name only), and 33% of the population is undecided.

Language

Language is a topic of fascination to many scholars of Jalovaalean culture. Ethnically, Jalovaalea has no Finns. However, the keisari found Finnish to be a most interesting language, with no past of imperialistic violence or illegal domination over any group of people. It was chosen as a sort of natural auxillary language. English is spoken by 100% of the population as well.

The Finnish language has been adapted for Jalovaalea's unique situation. To make the language even more auxillary, the keisari has proclaimed that all documents written in Finnish are to be written in the Tibetan alphabet. There is a one-to-one correspondence for every Finnish and Tibetan letter.

Politics

Jalovaalea is a unique country, with a form of government that is found in no other country in the present day. It has been described by the keisari as an “imperial republic.” This means that, as a republic, the people have a say in choosing their leaders and are ruled by laws, not capricious and arbitrary actions by a supreme ruler. However, once the emperor is elected, he is vested with total executive and legislative powers. Some argue this does not display the typical facets of a republic. The emperor does have to abide by the same laws as the citizens of Jalovaalea. The judicial branch of the government is independent, with grand judges appointed by a Panel of Experts. The Panel of Experts is comprised partly of the Emperor’s cabinet, and partly elected by universal suffrage.

The keisari remains in power until he steps down. There is no formal law stating that the keisari must retire under certain circumstances. If the people were to organize and call for such a retirement from office, the emperor would oblige and do as the people wish.

Identification

Flag

Jalovaalean lippu

The flag of Jalovaalea (Finnish: Jalovaalean lippu) is formed by five horizontal bands of green (top, double width), white, blue (quadruple width), white, and green (double width). There is a large, white-outlined globe filled with green in the middle of the center band.

The green in the flag stands for hope, the white for peace and harmony, and the blue for justice and equality. The globe outlined in white represents the hope for world peace.

Foreign Affairs

As of now, Jalovaalea is considered isolationist due to its lack of diplomatic relations with any sovereign nation.
