The State Defense Force (German: Staatsgarde) is both a law enforcement agency as a military unit that operates in Illinois. It is administered under the Ministry of Defense for the national NAC government, but is headed by a commander who reports directly to the King of Illinois, who acts as commander-in-chief of the state defense force. It has both a regular national role as part of the Army and makes up part of the National Guard. As a national police force, the Illinois State Force is comparable today to a gendarmerie.
