Holidays in the Republic of Nordale

The Republic of Nordale officially celebrates several holidays throughout the year varying from celebrations of worldwide historical events to religious and cultural holidays significant to the Citizens of Nordale. In line with the nation's usage of the French Republican Calendar, the nation also celebrates 6 festivals at the end of each year on the sans-culottide days of the calendar.

Holidays were legally enshrined by the Directorate with the Holidays Act of 229, on 14 Vendémiaire of that year. Holidays within Nordale are officially distinguished into four categories, the names and definitions of which are written below.

• Days of Celebration : "Days of Celebration are holidays which celebrate joyous events. During Days of Celebration, all labor not essential to the safety of the Republic must be voluntary. No worker may be required to work or penalized for lack of work on a Day of Celebration unless the lack of their labor would endanger Citizens of the Republic. Days of Celebration are to be commemorated by the State either through statements, festivals, or other appropriate action."
• Days of Commemoration : "Days of Commemoration are days commemorating solemn or sorrowful events. During Days of Commemoration, all labor not essential to the safety of the Republic must be voluntary. No worker may be required to work or penalized for lack of work on a Day of Commemoration unless the lack of their labor would endanger Citizens of the Republic. Days of Commemoration are to be commemorated by the State either through statements, festivities, or other appropriate action."
• National Holidays : "National Holidays are days to be acknowledged by the Republic as holidays, but on which workers may still be required to work. National Holidays are to be commemorated by the State either through statements, festivities, or other appropriate action."
• Provincial Holidays : "Provincial Holidays are days designated by Governors of Provinces which are culturally significant to the people of their province. Governors have the right to designate days as holidays with the permission of the Directorate, with prohibitions against profane or other holidays not in accordance with the values of the Nordalian people as determined by the Directorate of the Republic of Nordale. Governors are to commemorate Provincial Holidays through statements, festivities, or other appropriate actions."

According to the Holidays Act, the power to create and establish further Days of Commemoration and Celebration lies with the Directorate and can be done with a motion which garners a simple majority. The first additional holiday to be established following the passage of the Holidays Act was the Founder's Holiday, motioned for by Citizen-Chancellor Magnolia Flowers and voted into law on 14 Vendémiaire 229.

The following chart is a list of the current holidays officially recognized and celebrated within the Republic of Nordale. While the French Republican Calendar serves as the main calendar within Nordale, some holidays such as religious ones and those significant in the United States and elsewhere are to be celebrated in accordance with the Gregorian date due to the disparity between French Republican and Gregorian dates in some instances.

Halloween	Depends on alignment with Gregorian date; usually 9 or 10 Brumaire	31 October	Halloween is a cultural celebration common amongst Nordalian Citizens, generally characterized by the wearing of costumes, “trick-or-treating”, and decorations surrounding autumn or themes of horror.
Celebration of the Great October Socialist Revolution	16 Brumaire	7 November	The Celebration of the Great October Socialist Revolution celebrates the Socialist Revolution carried out in the Soviet Union, with this particular date being celebrated due to the date of the seizure of the Winter Palace taking place on Brumaire 16, 126.

Festival of the Supreme Being	20 Prarial	8 June	Festival consecrated to the Supreme Being, in all the ways It is understood by the people of the Republic of Nordale, celebrating Its love of justice, equality, and virtue.
End of the Emergency Period Day	28 Prarial	16 June	Celebration of the End of the Emergency Period and the passage of the Reinstatement of the Constitution Act of 2020.
Day of Heroism and Emancipation	30 Prarial	19 June	The Day of Heroism is a commemoration of the fallen heroes of the Peruvian People and the Communist Party of Peru who fought to their death for freedom in the Lurigancho, El Fronton, and Callao prisons on Prarial 30, 194. This holiday also celebrates the American holiday of “Juneteenth”, celebrating the freeing of slaves in the state of Texas.

Day of Mourning of the Thermidorian Reaction	10 Thermidor	28 July	Holiday mourning the deaths of Maximillien Robespierre, Louis Antoine de Saint-Just, and the overthrow of the revolutionary faction in France.
Jerry Garcia Day	13 Thermidor	1 August	Day celebrating the life and work of Jerry Garcia, celebrated on his birthday.
Festival of Virtue	1 Sans-culottide	17 September	Celebration of the virtuous qualities of the Nordalian people, highlighting the good deeds done by Nordalian Citizens in the year.
Festival of Talent	2 Sans-culottide	18 September	Celebration of the talents of the Nordalian people, highlighting their art or other creations.
Festival of Labor	3 Sans-culottide	19 September	Celebration of the physical labor of the Nordalian people, highlighting the centrality of labor in everything.
Festival of Convictions	4 Sans-culottide	20 September	Celebration of the strong beliefs of the Nordalian people, particularly in regards to issues of equality and social justice.
Festival of Honors	5 Sans-culottide	21 September	Celebrations of the exceptional among Nordalians.
Festival of the Revolution	6 Sans-culottide	22 September	This day, which only is celebrated during leap Years, shall celebrate the revolutionary ideals of the Republic and revolutionary achievements of the world. Due to the infrequency of this holiday, it should be celebrated by the Republic with great fanfare and preparation.
