The Hereditary Sheriff of Mervustan is the ceremonial head of the Mervustan Militia, and is held by the Merritts, with the office being hereditary. The current sheriff is Dean Merritt.
History, Role and Succession
History
The Hereditary Sheriff office was created by Thomas Jacobs in December 2021, as an honour to Dean Merritt for his original experience before the 17thMayCoup.
Role
The Hereditary Sheriff’s role is largely ceremonial, being the figurehead of the Mervustan Militia. His only real role is to be the head of the personal protection guard at all Presidential Inaugurations.
Succession
The office is hereditary, meaning it is based from one member of the family to the next. Only the direct descendants of the first Sheriff are entitled to inherit the office. In the case that there are no direct successors, the office has twenty days to be filled by another member of the Merritt family, or it will go extinct.
