The Greater Sundarian Empire, more commonly known as Sundaria, is a micronation on the island of Great Britian which claims to be a sovereign state but is not recognised by the international community. Sundaria covers over 223.889 square feet, and currently has a population of 9, but is planning to expand both its territory and its population.
Sundaria is run on a democratic policy in which every citizen above the age of eight has the right to vote for a new sovereign, should they need to. The Prime Minister comes to power after the same process. The Parliament is split into the upper Senior Council and lesser Junior Council, which are divided by age and efficiency.
Sundaria has no major relations with any other micronations so far, but is mainly inspired by and looks up to Austenasia and Adammia. And although it currently has no friends or enemies, it is planning to establish relationships in the future.
Etymology
The empire's name comes from an ancient Indian word meaning beautiful, combined with the traditional suffix -ia, for land. So, fully translated, Sundaria means 'beautiful land'.
History
Foundation Era
The founder of Sundaria, Oren Manthorpe, first became interested in micronations when his father bought him a book concerning the subject in July 2020, and many micronational projects and ideas, most notably the now defunct Aurumia, led to the establishment of Sundaria on 4 January 2023, and his close family (three relatives and two pets) joined him. The flag was designed just then, and the coat of arms created the following day. The constitution took its current format on 8 January, and was finished two days later. The motto, United Forever!, was adopted, as was the national anthem, although the lyrics have, recently, been changed slightly. The Constitution was completed at 8:02 pm on 10 January.
Expansionist Era
A third province, Corey Island, was admitted to the nation on 22 January, and its governor, who happened to be a new citizen, was appointed. Plans have also been laid for expansion elsewhere, and military expeditions are expected to be carried out soon. Two new people were also given the rights of citizenship by Emperor Oren on 4 February.
Politics and government
The official, full legislature is ultimately the Parliament of Sundaria, which is split into upper and lesser houses. Elections are held at whatever time the state feels it needs a new leader, a system not widely used by sovereign states. A citizen new to politics is elected into the Junior Council, from which they will rise until they reach the Senior Council, which is the principal governing body. The head of the Junior Council, reports up to the head of the Senior Council, who is an adviser to the emperor and effective second-in-command in the state.
Law and order
The principal force of law in Sundaria is the Supreme Constitution, which comprises ten articles and forty-six sections, as well as a preamble. Sundaria currently has no police force or army, but is working up to those standards and expects to have them soon. The Emperor does play a large part in law enforcement, and he is the head of the executive branch of the Parliament of Sundaria.
Foreign relations
Being an almost newborn entity, Sundaria has no large relations with other micronations but plans to establish friendships and diplomatic agreements in the future. Austenasia and Adammia are two nations that it admires, although they have no contact.
Military
Military is currently nonexistent in Sundaria, and is a working project. It will eventually have an air force, ground force, and navy. Later, water guns and paper aeroplanes are going to be used by the military, according to plans for the future of Sundaria.
Geography and climate
Sundaria is a significantly dry country, being inside a building. However, its outside sector usually has a lot of rain and little sunlight. The land is very flat, and has one tree. Springs are usually mildly cold, and in winter there is rarely any lasting snow.
Economy
Sundaria is a developing state and the emperor's small treasury of around £80 is the only money looked after solely by the empire. But like many things associated with this micronation, the economy is expected to change massively in the following years.
Culture and media
Sundaria has a wide culture, and its two official languages are English and Scottish Gaelic, and its growing art has origins in East Asia. It is influenced by many different nations such as the United Kingdom, Greece, ancient Rome, and India. Sundarian national holidays include Liberty Day, held every 4th January, and Sundarian New Year, every 22nd December, but as the nation expands, notable historical events are likely to become holidays as well. Unlike the diverse culture, media is currently not active in Sundarian society.
