Uris, officially the Free State of Uris (Latin: Civitas Libera Uris), is a English and Latin speaking micronation located in the American state of Maine and in New Zealand. The Free State is a Communitarian Arborism State, lead by the State Elder of Uris; the State Elder's extensive powers are equivalent to those of a Prime Minister like in Estonia. Uris is enclaved by the United States, New Zealand, and Denmark with an area of just over six square kilometers and a population of seven.
The Free State of Uris takes its name in inspiration of Leon Marcus Uris (August 3, 1924 – June 21, 2003) who was an American author of historical fiction who wrote many bestselling books including Exodus and Trinity. Whom the State Elder and Founder Archie Birch enjoys reading his books.
In 1633, the Plymouth Company established a trading post in Machiasport, Maine to conduct business with the Native Americans. It was first part of Machias, incorporated in 1784, then set off and incorporated as Machiasport in 1826. In 1775, following the capture of the British ship HMS Margaretta by locals under leadership of Jeremiah O'Brien, the residents built a small breastworks here to guard the mouth of the Machias River and the area settlements. Later that year, the British sent four ships under the command of Sir George Collier that defeated the local militia, destroyed the breastworks, and burned several buildings. In 1777, the fort was rebuilt as a crescent shaped four-gun battery. During the War of 1812, in September 1814 the British captured the fort and burnt the barracks. In 1863, during the American Civil War, Fort Machias was built adjacent to the ruins of Fort O'Brien. It was a five-gun earthworks fort with Napoleon 12-pound cannon. It was actively manned from 1863 to 1865.

Urias has a State Elder as Head of State, and a Ecclesia of Uris to advise the State Elder. It is also a direct democracy, where citizens can propose constitutional amendments and legislation to the Ecclesia of Uris. The Code of Conduct of Urias was adopted in October 2021, being the foundational document of the Free State. The Free State has two regions, that being Herodotias District and the Uris Outlying Islands District.
The current State Elder is the Head of State and represents Uris in its international and micronational relations. The State Elder is able to sign any legislation into law, revise the constitution and dissolve and rework the Ecclesia of Uris via a statute. The State Elder oversees the election for the Ecclesia of Uris, made up of the State Elder as the head, with up to four members from around the two districts of Uris, with the State Commissions. The Ecclesia of Uris is charged with advising the State Elder, providing support to the duties of the State Elder and overseeing the nation in times of the State Elder's absence.
The following government commissions are headed by ministers who comprise the Cabinet:
- Exploratory Affairs - led by the Advisor of Exploratory Affairs, responsible for monthly missions of the commission and the nation as a whole, with other duties including the adoption of new policies and stances for internal and international affairs.
- Cultural Affairs - led by the Advisor of Cultural Affairs, responsible for maintaining and overseeing the adoption of cultural programs, policies and symbols for the nation as a whole.
