Since its Declaration of Independence from Empire of Emosia on 16 August 2019, Aenopia has moved to become an active member of the Micronational Community where possible, and has since become a member of numerous Micronational Organisations such as the Grand Unified Micronational, Cupertino Alliance, Micronational Olympic Federation to name a few. Foreign Affairs are handled by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

As part of this, Aenopia actively engages in formal and informal Diplomacy with other nations through these means and others, for which are formally conducted by the Crown. As of August 2020, Aenopia has signed formal documents with 20 other sovereign states, and recognizes the existence of 221 other nations, without the signing of Treaties to legally bind this.

Aenopia is also a signatory state of 5 international treaties and convention, namely the Wrythe and Edgbaston Conventions and the La Salle Convention. Aenopia has also played a critical part in the creation of minor treaties such as the Intergalactic Treaty and the Sough Convention on Global Climate Change of 2019. Aenopia is also a leading member of the ongoing Sough2020 Convention and Sough Convention on Global Climate Change Volume II, which has as of 22 November 2020 consists of over 20 nations from across the community.

Diplomatic Affairs

Recognised states; no foreign relations

Aenopia recognizes the sovereignty of these states, however, has not engaged in formal diplomacy. Recognition is also given to all members and observers of the now-defunct North Atlantic Defence Union. Recognition of these sovereign states does not equate to diplomacy including the signing of formal documents. This list also includes defunct or inactive states which were formerly recognised by the Aenopian Government.

Green cells indicate sovereign states recognised as Macronations by the international community or a governing body representing one or more macronations.

An example of an Aenopian Diplomatic treaty, this being the Aenopia-Posaf Mutual Recognition Treaty. This has since gone on to become the standard template for Aenopian treaties.

Aenopia formally recognizes the sovereignty of these states, via the signing of formal documents. This regulates the recognition of the government of each state; mutual sovereignty and claimed territories of each nation.

Aenopia and the Grand Unified Micronational

Motion declared by Bradley of Dullahan to elevate Aenopia from Observer status to Full Membership during a GUM Quorum on 27 November 2019.

The Empire of Aenopia is a full member of the Grand Unified Micronational, and has been since the Quorum of Delegates convened and voted on 27 November 2019.[35] Aenopia was previously accepted as an Observer on 6 October 2019 and as a Provisional state on 10 November 2019.[36] Aenopia was also involved in the GUM Member States Positivity Survey. This was a survey conducted by Zarel Smith from Statistic-Dime asking participants to rank full member states of the Grand Unified Micronational based on how positively said participant viewed them. As part of this survey, Aenopia was ranked joint 13th out of 42 Members, initially with a score of 3.7. during the 20 respondents survey[37] later falling to 3.5 with the 40 respondents survey.[38]

Aenopia and the Cupertino Alliance

An Announcement made by Jayden Lycon admitting Aenopia into the Cupertino Alliance.

Aenopia has been a member of the Cupertino Alliance since 24 February when it became the fourth member of the alliance.[39] Out of the 3 delegate positions, only one is filled, this being filled by HRH Logan Ross himself. Logan also serves as the Minister of Microwiki Affairs, a position he has filled since the ministry's formation on 30 May 2020. This ministry focuses on the improvement of the Microwiki pages of member nations, as well as manages several CA MicroWiki related projects such as the Glasgow System.[40]

On 26 September 2020, primary delegate Logan Ross was elected as the second Lieutenant Chair of the Cupertino Alliance after his successor Archie Birch resigned after the departure of the Directive of Misberia from the Alliance. On 14 October 2020 Aenopia was ranked 2nd out of 24 nations[41] as part of the the Cupertino Member Positivity Survey with 91 points and a mean of 3.72.[42] Aenopia would later be ranked as 1st during the December 2020 Cupertino Member Positivity Survey.

On 4 January 2021, primary delegate Logan Ross was declared as the automatic winner of the 2nd Cupertino Alliance chairmanship election after rival candidate Roscoe dropped out.[43] Ross will take office on 15 February 2021 after Lycon's term concludes.

Treaties and Conventions

Wrythe Convention

A screenshot of the Aenopian ratification of the Wrythe Convention.

The Wrythe Convention is an international treaty which condemns sockpuppeting, identity theft, and false claims within micronationalism. Signatories to the Convention pledge to not enter into relations with any entities engaged in fabrications and falsehoods, and by signing the treaty reserve the right to suspend or revoke recognition of any entities found to have engaged in such behaviour.[44] The Empire of Aenopia has been a signatory of the Wrythe Convention since 11 July 2019[45] and enforces this Convention due to its Membership within the GUM.

Edgbaston Convention

The Edgbaston Convention is an intermicronational treaty which defines higher standard of accuracy in claims and condemns misleading claims within micronationalism, comprising of three key sections stating that Micronations should not claim people who don't consent to being citizens, claim territories in which the majority of residents are not citizens and count activities such as working in a nearby macronation as part of their gross domestic product (GDP).

Despite the fact that the original treaty was signed at the 2019 GUM Birmingham Summit, the Empire of Aenopia has been a subsequent signatory of the Edgbaston Convention since 17 August 2020.[46]

Sough Convention on Global Climate Change, 2019

The Sough Convention on Global Climate Change covers the minutes and discussed events of the NADU Climate Summit 2019 and other articles covering macronational actions on climate change. This was initially created in New Aberdare on 25 September 2019 and entered into force 1 October 2019. This convention is the 2nd volume of the North Atlantic Defense Union's Treaty Series, covering treaties signed, ratified or created by NADU parties or representatives. This convention also covers deadlines set by NADU parties covering the abolition of negative emission-producing everyday objects. This convention does not cover the complete removal of carbon emissions from the atmosphere. The Empire of Aenopia was the original signatory and creator of the Convention, having signed the Convention on 25 September 2019.[47]

The original Sough Convention on Global Climate Change of 2019 would later lead to the creation of the Sough2020 convention and treaty more than a year later from 2 October 2020 to 26 November 2020. This was also created by Logan Ross and would be heavily influenced by Aenopia like its predecessor. Unlike its predecessor, Sough2020 peaked at over 32 participating nations and as of 28 November 2020 has over 16 signatories.

The Intergalactic Treaty

LaSalle.jpg

The Intergalactic Treaty was a formal document initially created by New Cymru on 3 June 2019. It decrees that any nation that signs it, will not make any intergalactic claims on any Planets, Moons, Stars or terrestrial bodies in order to leave the galaxy free to explore and research. The first Amendment also declares that any nation that signs it will not recognise any micronation that claims any interstellar space. It has been signed by 8 Nations.[48]

The contents of the treaty are now more commonly seen and ratified in the more well-known Edgbaston Convention which Aenopia has also signed and ratified and so as a result has made the Intergalactic Treaty obsolete.

La Salle Convention

The La Salle Convention is an intermicronational diplomatic treaty which condemns cyberattacks, doxxing, Discord raiding and online bullying.

Signatories to the convention pledge to not enter into relations with any nations or entities engaged in said proscribed activities, and by signing the treaty reserve the right to suspend or revoke recognition of any entities found to have engaged in such behaviour.[49] Aenopia became a signatory of La Salle Convention on 8 October 2020[50] and is one of 8 Original signatories.

Sough2020

Aenopia was the leading member and creator of the Sough2020 convention and associated Sough Convention on Global Climate Change Volume II treaty. This was a digital summit focusing on the creation, signing and ratification of the Sough Convention on Global Climate Change Volume II: a treaty aimed towards micronational action regarding climate change, pollution and negative human interactions with the natural world. The convention was conceived by Logan Ross on 9 October 2020, partially in response to the La Salle Convention from the beginning of October 2020 and inspired by the Paris Agreement of 2016. The treaty will be translated into 7 languages.

Sough2020 serves as the successor to the Sough Convention on Global Climate Change, 2019 also created by Logan Ross as part of the North Atlantic Defence Union. Sough2020's long-term goals are to lower micronational carbon footprints through indirect means such as encouraging low emission forms of transportation. Despite the name, Sough2020 does not solely focus on the lowering of carbon footprints. Subjects such as pollution, environmental destruction, mass extinction of species and other forms of negative impacts on the natural world from human interaction are covered.

Like other treaties in the micronational community such as the Wrythe Convention, signatories do not simply by signing the Convention and Treaty extend any recognition to co-signatories, due to the "collective desire to ensure the survival of the natural world, and consequently, the human race" transcending any diplomatic differences between micronations.

Sough2020 was initially conceived on 1 October 2020 however the convention wasn't formally declared until 9 October 2020. In total 6 meetings took place between 11 October 2020 and 21 November 2020, this period lasting 42 days in total. Despite the fact that creation of the treaty began on 1 October 2020, final compilation and editing took place on 22 November 2020 with the treaty being presented on 26 November 2020.[51] The contents of the Sough Convention on Global Climate Change Volume II will formally take effect within signatory states on 1 December 2020. As of 26 November 2020, 31 nations took part in the Sough2020 convention, including notable nations such as Aenopia, Misberia, Vishwamitra, Australis, Naveria and Plushunia.
