The micronation of Florania has been criticised in the past.

Flawed democracy

The presidential electoral system in Florania is criticized for being "unrepresentative" and "flawed". In Florania, a canton is worth a certain amount of points which are determined by their population. Since single transferable vote is used, the winner of a canton must have a majority, and all of the canton's points go to that candidate. This created a dispute in September 2020, when President Addison Dillon won re-election despite having fewer votes. Constitution Party candidate Isaiah David, who is rather well known for leaving Florania out of protest for the president's veto power, got 52% of the vote; Dillon had 48%. In addition, Sean Dunkerque, the Workers' Party candidate, dropped out of the race and "gave" his votes to Dillon. This was contested by Burdette who threatened to file a lawsuit on behalf of the Constitution Party for "illegally giving votes", claiming that if a candidate dropped out, their votes would be redistributed fairly amongst the remaining candidates. Dillon responded with a statement, saying "there is no law preventing Jamie from giving his votes to me. Even if there was, I still would've won because I would have won more points". Burdette responded with a slew of negative attacks, calling the system "worse than America's" and "messed up democracy". A few weeks earlier, a bill was passed attempting to reform the electoral system to a direct two-round popular vote system, but this was vetoed by Dillon, shaming the senators who voted in favor and criticizing the bill: "This is an outrage to my cousin's legacy. He was a true Floranian patriot who loved his country with all his heart, and this is how they repay him? By disparaging the electoral system he was so proud to have created? Even without the courtesy of putting it to a referendum, or at the very least a ballot measure. Not to mention that a two-round system is useless since single-transferable vote is used here. A real shame."

Flawed currency

When the economy was still fresh, President Dillon decided to use a Discord bot to create a circulating currency. But Isaiah Burdette once again called him out, criticizing the way that the bot handles the usage of money in the official server, how money is automatically handed out to anyone who joins, and how the President didn't make sure they had enough United States Dollars to back all the currency up.
