Current Policy
Under the new government policy, passed February 14, 2010, the Office of the Chief Justice has been changed to the Office of the Chief Procurator. The duties of the Chief Procurator are mostly identical to the previous post of Chief Justice, but changes will be posted as they are decided upon.
Former Policy
The Chief Justice of the Republic of Eniarku is the head of the Eniarkian federal court system, which means that he/she is the head of the Judicial Branch of federal government of Eniarku, and the Presiding Judge of the Eniarkian Supreme Court. He is one of the four Justices if the Supreme Court, the others being the three Associate Justices of Eniarku. Although done every so often, it is incorrect to address the Chief Justice as the "Chief Justice of the Eniarkian Supreme Court".
The Eniarkian Chief Justice is the highest ranking judicial officer in the country. He acts as head of the Supreme Court (as stated above) as the Presiding Judge of the Eniarkian Supreme Court. This also makes the Chief Justice the chief administrating officer of the Eniarkian Federal Court System.
The Chief Justice leads the judicial branch, while also acting as its spokesman to the outside government. In the case of the impeachment of a high-ranked governing official, such as the Prime Minister or High Minister, the Chief Justice presides over the Senate. The Chief Justice also serves the purpose of administering the oath of office to governing officials, such as the President or new Chief Justices.
The first and current Chief Justice is Aaron Meek, who was nominated and appointed by the Eniarkian Senate, and then approved by the Prime Minister on August 5, 2009. He has served since that date.
