Kylite democracy, also known as Elysiumite conservativism and democratic traditionalism, is a paternalistic form of Elysiumite political conservatism. It advocates the preservation of established institutions and traditional principles from the Imperial Age of Elysium, in which the nation was led by a constitutional monarch, in combination with nationalism and economic populism. According to the philosophy of Kylite democracy, the primary duties of the government is to foster a sense of patriotism, strike a balance between capital and labour, and preserve Elysium's traditions of a monarchy whilst creating a democratic framework within the nation. Furthermore, the ideology argues that nations ought to keep to themselves and not interfere in one another's domestic affairs. Supporters of Kylite democracy claim they wish to serve both the interest of capital and labour in order to bring a balance in the nation between these two forces. As such, followers of Kylite democracy denounce the idea that capital and labour are fundamentally opposed.

The term Kylite democracy comes from the name of Elysium's longest serving Chancellor, Kyle Smith, who also founded the Democratic Traditionalist Party, which, alongside its successors, remains one of the two major parties of Elysium. This party, as well as its succesor, the Elysiumite Nationalist Democrats, remain majority Kylite democratic parties. Kyle Smith appealed to average Elysiumites of the left and right through his policies of “localization, industrialization and reformation”, as he described them in a campaign speech. These policies included putting a higher focus on local Elysiumites, temporary nationalizing certain industries in order to further economic growth, and to reform the Elysiumite electoral system through major changes to Grand Senate voting. Furthermore, when Kylite democracy entered Elysium, Elysium was still an absolute monarchy. Kyle Smith worked with Grand Emperor Robert II in order to reform Elysium and pass the First Constitution of Elysium. Kyle Smith in response to the dominance of the Vox Party founded the Imperial Party, later the Democratic Traditionalist, to strengthen his campaign of reform. In the first Chancellorship general election, Kyle Smith won with 60% of the vote. In his re-election campaign three months later, Kyle Smith won 95% of the vote, the highest vote share of any Chancellorship election in Elysium.

Currently, the contemporary party of Kylite democracy is the Elysiumite Nationalist Democrats - which Kyle Smith is a member of - led by Elliot Doe. Elliot Doe is also the primary leader of the Kylite democratic movement today as a result of Kyle Smith’s retirement. Under his leadership the ND’s led a referendum campaign which restored the monarchy of Elysium, the primary policy of Kylite democrats, and subsequently Doe led the ND’s back to the Chancellory, making Doe the first Kylite to serve as Chancellor in over a year.

Political philosophy

Kylite democracy was conceived by the D.T Chancellor Kyle Smith, who outlines his political philosophy in two major documents: The Imperialist Papers, and the "Localization, Industrialization, Reformation" Speech. The ideology of Kylite democracy was clarified by the manifesto of the Nationalist Democrats, written by Elliot Doe. Smith’s and Doe’s conservatism proposed a paternalistic society with Elysiumite traditions intact, but with a democratic system being formed in the context of the monarchy. Furthermore, the two believe the importance of economic intervention rather than Tau's libertarianism. The phrase was coined because due to Elliot Doe's attempts to unite conservatism in Elysium around one concise ideology, based on the teachings of Kyle Smith. Kylite democracy was his solution to this lack of unity, namely a system of measures to keep traditions intact, and restore them when needed, whilst also providing for a nationalistic and democratic state.

Kylite democracy, whilst generally a centre-right ideology, has some more leftist factions in the form communitarianist as well as centrist progressive-conservatives. To the right of mainstream Kylite democrats includes more radical factions, like that of Gabe Hackman, who believed in a more paleoconservative view of Kylite democracy. Kyle Smith managed to pull all of these groups together in his Democratic Traditionalist party.

Kylite Democrats mix the ideologies of Soft imperialism and isolationism. The followers of Kylite Democracy wish to encourage other micronations to the Republic of Elysium, but do not wish to coup or topple nations. Rather Kylite Democratic administrations have historically been well known for negotiating foreign states to peacefully enter Elysium. Despite this the first Kyle Smith administration was brought down following allegations of Elysium inappropriately couping the nation of Clamatoa, albeit through democratic means. This scandal columnated in Kyle Smith’s resignation and Tau Barclay becoming Chancellor. Despite this scandal Kyle Smith two Chancellor elections later would come back to win a major landslide. Ticronvidia joined Elysium under the second Kyle Smith administration, alongside Daeltheria, although Ticronvidia is notable as it left Cycoldia to join Elysium. This remains a point of hostility between Elysium and Cycoldia, although domestic polling shows the vast majority of Ticronvidian citizens prefer Elysiumite rule to the alternatives of independence and rejoining Cycoldia. The entrance of Ticronvidia was welcomed by all major political factions in Elysium including Kyle Smith’s opposition, at the time, the Progressives.

While possibly counter active to the policies of expansionism as seen above, Kylite Democrats also support isolationist policies. Elliot Doe, leading contemporary Kylite Democrat, on the issue said “We find it to be in no contradiction to simultaneously support both expansionism and isolationism. We wish to defeat the surrendering of sovereignty from above and below as such while major treaty organizations pose a threat to Elysium in our eyes, the expansion of the Union does not.”, September Fourth 2021. The earliest major isolationist stance of the Kylite Democrats was to make Elysium leave the Pacific Powers, a local micronational organization Elysium partook in. A few months later following the previously Progressively led Grand Senate passing an act to have Elysium enter into another international pact, the new DT led Grand Senate pulled out in a policy they called “Eleave”. As for the present the ND’s oppose creation of treaties wiry nations who are not near Elysiumite territory. The Nationalist Democrats also wish to leave the Vesspuchi Zone for acclaimed inactivity in the alliance. The Nationalist Democrats oppose Elysium entering organizations such the CA and the GUM. Most followers of Kylite Democrats are also civic nationalist and protectionist

Domestic Policy

Kylite Democratic pro-monarchy posted

Kylite democrats believe that the Elysiumite government and state should adhere to cultural traditionalism, social conservatism, and economic nationalism. The largest way their traditionalist cultural views can be seen is their strict adherence to the Elysiumite monarchy; due to followers of Klyite democracy believe that the Elysiumite social structure ought to be preserved alongside the nobility.

Kyle Smith when running his April 2019 election for Chancellor ran on the domestic platform of opening up Elysium to global citizens, seeking the admission of new Provinces, and creating a codified constitution. Anti-corruption was another big theme of his campaign following the Vox Parliamentary Affair in which, due to independent democrats beating the incumbent Vox Party the Vox Party impeached the democrats from parliament before they could take their seats. This led to the dissolution of parliament by Grand Emperor Robert Smith, and due to public outcry, a new electoral system was created in which people would directly elect a Chancellor. Kyle Smith and his followers formed the Imperial Party to combat the Vox Party. Kyle Smith was elected with a considerable 80% of the vote. Kyle Smith, with the Emperor Robert Smith, worked fast to create a constitution for Elysium as well as hold the first Grand Senate elections. Kyle Smith also repealed the Righteous Nation Act, more commonly referred to as the Theocratic Acts, passed by the Vox government on day one noting a shift away from the former governments political Christianity. Kylite democrats remain focused on constitutional reforms introducing the petition system, proportional representation, the Imperial Council to elect the Crown Prince, ranked choice voting (although this was done due to the recommendation of Progressive Grand Senator Adam Johnston).

Contemporary Kylite democrats support a second monarchist referendum, implementation of consecutive term limits, and declaring Elysium a Christian nation in terms of government reform. On this first action they seek to restore the Elysiumite Empire through a referendum following monarchist winning the Commonwealth Midterms in 2021. Should monarchy be restored the propose a similar system to that pre-dissolution in which the Imperial Council elects the Crown Prince and approves amendments. Similarly in early 2021 due to a petition and referendum called by Kylite democrats satirical parties where banned in Elysium. Leader of the Nationalist Democrats and the most influential Kylite democrat since Kyle Smith retired from politics proposed on September 12, 2021, in response to Adam Johnston passing an unprecedented five hundred day mark consecutive term limits. Under his proposal a Chancellors and Prime Ministers could serve only up to one year in their office consecutively.

On federalism Nationalist Democrats and Kylite democrats are staunchly unionist and openly have denounced regionalism and w:Separatism which led to the National Tribune, a conservative media outlet in Elysium, attacking the Liberal Party of Elysium for allowing a separatist leader in Ticronvidia, Nicholas Lokin, to become a member. After this affair the Liberal’s and ND’s relationship was greatly strained. Elliot Doe has ruled out his party working with “Anarchic, regionalist, or separatist” parties and would enter into a national unity government if need be to stop such parties. Kylite democrats have been quoted saying they seek to “defend Elysium threats to the federation’s foundation from within and without”.

On fiscal matters Kylite democrats range from religious distributism such as Duke Jordan Marino to liberals such as Deputy ND Leader Moustapha Hoteit. Although the majority of the supporters of Kylite democrats believe in a capitalist economic system with strong government regulations to stop the possibility of the rise of crony capitalism and to protect labour. Due to this Kylite democrats are best described as paternalistic in their nature. Another key element of Kylite democrats is their support for agrarianism with the most notable move coming from Kyle Smith when he worked with Progressives to nationalize agricultural industries, a policy which remains in effect. Contemporary Kylite democrats maintain support for this industry to be nationalized but would give more independence to individual farmers.
