The People's Confederation of Knillia, more commonly known as Knillia, is a micronation in the western Bay of Plenty area in New Zealand. The nation was formed of June 3rd 2023 by Kobi Notman and Joshua Breite.

The nation is a social democratic federal republic, with the president acting as head of state, and the People's Council and the Council Chancellor acting as the head of government. Since it's formation, Kobi Notman has served as the confederation's president and Council Chancellor. The nation is divided into seven Regions, with each Region having the right to a representative in the People's Council, as well as the right to one Regional vote in any decisions or referendums held by the Council.

In the 2023 census held after the Federation's formation, Knillia's population is estimated to be 29,516 people, with the majority of it's population living in the Otumoetai and Tauranga regions. The nation is newly formed, yet a steadily growing power in the Tauranga Micronational Area. The political policy of the People's Confederation of Knillia is Democratic Socialism with an emphasis on environmental policy and worker's rights. By principle, Knillia argues that the ideas and values of Capitalism are fully incompatible with the rights and freedoms of the people, and aim to work towards a peaceful and democratic transition to full socialism. Political and economic decisions are made through the choices of all the people, as much as the federal assembly and the People's Council. The People's Confederation of Knillia is mainly situated within the Omokora and Otumoetai peninsula's, although their territorial claims extend all over the Western Bay of Plenty area, including five autonomous territories and three economic sanctions.

Etymology

The People's Confederation of Knillia get's it's name from the Joshua Knill, a mythological, god-like being in the nations culture, and was chosen as a part of the nation's name upon it's formation on June 3rd 2023.

History

Founding

on June 3rd 2023, in a desire for a state governed by the people, for the people, the People's Confederation was formed by Kobi Notman and Joshua Breite, as a union of states with common causes and goals, and similar cultures, belief, and identity. On June 8th 2023, a referendum was held among the federal assembly and the People of Knillia, to elect their representatives for their Regions, and thus, their members of the People's Council.

Political Endorsement

On September 8th, the People's Confederation of Knillia released their official endorsement for the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand in the upcoming election.

Military Uprising

On September 17th, the People's Confederation of Knillia put down a military-sponsored monarchist uprising in the Matua Provinces, led by Joshua Breite, the representative for the province and leader of the armed forces. The uprising was quickly and decisively put down by the remaining majority of Knillia's armed forces, as well as through diplomatic relations with the rebels. Joshua Breite was pardoned, and allowed to keep his seat as representative of Matua, but was stripped of his title as leader of the armed forces, and his influence in the nation's military and government.

Monarchist Rebellion- The Grand Imperium of Knillia

The Military uprising was led by Joshua Breite, then leader of the Knillian Armed Forces, who attempted to establish a totalitarian, Monarchist state, known as the Grand Imperium of Knillia.

Government and Politics

The People's Confederation of Knillia is divided into seven administrative regions called Regions, with each Region given the right to a representative in the People's Council, as well as one Regional vote in any decisions or referendums held by the Council. Each Region maintains a relative amount of self-governance, but united through common causes, goals, culture, and beliefs, although the overall supremacy of the common federal government is often recognised more than the individual state itself. Each Region representative is given a federal department to manage. The Council Member's are elected to these positions by the Council and the Federal Assembly.

The terrain ranges from flat to hilly, with the Borders of Knillia ending just before the Kaimai mountain range to the west. Knillia's fertile arable land combined with its favourable geography has allowed for a steady but increasing growth in farming activities. There is some volcanic activity within Knillia's borders, including the Mt. Maunganui volcanic cone, as well as the small portion of Knillia's territory that lies within the Taupo volcanic zone. Summers within Knillia end to warm and humid, with its winters being relatively mild, with the coastal areas receiving the most sunshine, on average 2,200 hours annually. Rain tends to be more frequent in the winter, however, with the coastal regions particularly being affected, with them receiving an estimate of 4,000 millimetres of rain per annum.

Knillia's exact number of soldiers is unknown, but it is estimated that the number lies around 17-20 soldiers in the Army Corps, and approximately 8-11 soldiers in the Knillian Naval Corps. Knillia has no known air force.

After the September 17th military uprising led by Joshua Breite, the leader of Knillia's armed forces, Breite was removed from his position as leader of the armed forces, as well as from any major influence in the military or government, but was allowed to keep his position as representative of the Matua Region.
