The Democratic Party of Republic of Istria was founded in 2005 after the fall of the communist regime and had a long way from what it was to what it is now. In the first elections ever they lost the elections in favor of the Nationalist-Socialist Popular Movement and have become the minority in the Chamber of Deputies. In 2013 presidential elections they won with a majority of over 75% and in 2020 guvernatorial elections they became the majority in The Chamber of Deputies & Senate.
