The Crown Court of New Shropshire is the court of first instance for all criminal and civil cases in New Shropshire. It is a small and rarely used court, with only a single judge.
It appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
Powers
The primary power of the Crown Court is the ability to revoke citizenship, for a period of time or permanently.
It also has powers to:
- Place injunctions on government activities
- Review the constitutionality of laws and executive actions
- Remove diplomatic immunity
- Order an executive action
Because of the New Shropshire legal principle of crown sovereignty, it cannot strike down laws, and is subject to being overridden by the Governor.
Jurisdiction
The Crown Court has a unique jurisdiction, which includes the following:
- Citizens and nationals of New Shropshire, when in New Shropshire geographically
- Citizens and nationals of New Shropshire, when in New Shropshire chanceries
- Crown servants, when taking actions on behalf of the crown
Proceedings
Crown Court proceedings are normally held online, due to the geographical differences of subjects.
Justices
The sole judge of the Crown Court is the Crown Justice, which has been Sir Thomas Smith since 2019.
