Confederation of Caloudonoum
Caloudonoum, officially known as the Confederation of Caloudonoum, was a small sovereign state located in the South East of the British Isles and was apart of the United Kingdoms of Misberia and Caloudonum. It declared independence from Great Britain on the 7th of July 2017 and was a landlocked country consisting of three non-contiguous pieces of land, all located in the South East of the British Isles. Caloudonoum was a confederation of 7 provinces, each with certain amounts of power that united following the first secession from Great Britain. The issue of Britain leaving the European Union was the main reason Caloudonoum seceded and currently Caloudonoum was a core state of Misberia and had a strong voice in government and enjoyed vast freedoms.
The word 'Caloudonoum' was the Roman word for Colchester, a British town that Caloudonoum boarders. Colchester was once the capital of Roman Britain and was considered a once important European city. This appeals to Caloudonoum's greater European Aspirations. The title of Confederation comes from fact that Caloudonoum's provinces are all united in a Confederation.
On the 7th of July 2017, three separate states were formed within the British County of Essex, all in protest of the UK withdrawal from the European Union. The states of Caledonia, Trinovoy and Abreum all wanted to form a new country, independent of Britain in favour of a Pan-European culture that was being suppressed in Britain. The three states all held small areas of land and agreed that unification would be the best way to form a new country. After a minor war in which Abreum attempted to invade the neighbouring Countries, Caledonia defeated the Abreumanian army and the three countries joined to form a Confederation.
Caloudonoum then crystallised as a nation around these three states and swiftly annexed more land from Great Britain, notably a small section of land on the River Colne. The former three nations agreed to divide up their combined land into seven provinces with the former countries now becoming provinces. The capital of Caledonia, Sterling, became the Capital City and the Heer (Lord) of Caledonia became the de-facto head of state. On the 14th of January, Caloudonoum held it's first democratic elections and on the 18th of March, overwhelmingly voted to apply for EU membership.
On July 6th the Confederation dissolved and joined the United Kingdoms of Misberia and Caloudonum as a special protected state. The region was still considered a Confederation but under the Misberian crown. Statesman and Heer Samuel Hoffmann was vital in the revival of the Misberian nation after a summer of inactivity and spearheaded the Climate Change and Climate Control issues the nation has faced and proposed many sweeping reforms in those regards.
Government and Politics
Caloudonoum was a semi-direct democratic federal confederated state, with a parliamentary system democracy that greatly mirrors that of Great Britain. It's parliament, Shogoed was Caloudonoum's Upper House of Governance with an MSH (Member of Shogoed house) representing one of fifteen constituencies. These fifteen MSH's represent different parties and the leader of the largest party was therefore the Prime Minster. Officially, the Heer of Caledonia has all power in the country but chooses never to use it, instead transferring all governance of the country to the Prime Minster. The Prime Minster's duty was to represent the Heer of Caledonia by passing legislation and running the affairs of the country. The current Heer of Caloudonoum was Samuel Hoffmann
The Lower House of Governance was Asofin which has minor power in the country. The MAH's (Members of Asofin House) are representatives from the 7 provinces of Caloudonoum as well as Caloudonoum's overseas territories. Asofin was meant to deal with strictly the relations between the provinces but can technically veto legislation passed in Shogoed if it impacts the relations between the provinces.
The only active party in the state was the Koninkrijk Party ran and founded by Samuel Hoffmann, the party was a strong advocate for the crown in Misberia. The party was very eco friendly and was known as the primary force in the Kingdom and the State as running and winning many seats in positions in Misberia in the last three elections.
Caloudonoum was governed by the Koninkrijk Party which usually holds a majority in Shogoed. Notable Cabinet officials are:
Caloudonoum was made up of seven provinces, with 5 of them being contiguous. "Mainland Caloudonoum" consisted of the three original provinces of Trinovoy, Caledonia and Abreum, as well as the newly formed provinces of New Caledonia and Shergin. D'quar was a small province located 2 km away and the seventh province, Colnestaauune was located on the River Colne.
Caloudonoum owned two overseas territories, meaning they are under the protection of Caloudonoum but are self governing in almost every right. They consist of Ferandia, a small island off the coast of Bermuda, and Shoerem, an island off the coast of North America. Currently the islands are under the protection of a joint control agreement of Misberia and Caloudonoum.
Caloudonoum was a relatively small country so has a similar climate and geography throughout. Throughout the year, the average temperature was 17 degrees Celsius and has had a highest recorded temperature of 34 degrees and the lowest recorded temperature of minus 5 degrees. It has an average humidity of 89% and has an average of 45 mm of rain per month. The north of the Mainland Caloudonoum has a warmer climate with flat plains and the far north has large forested expanses. The south of Mainland Caloudonoum has a wetter, colder climate with marshy plains and largely evergreen forests. D'quar was on average warmer with few forests or green space and Colnestaauune was the coldest part of the country with a marshy landmass of mostly swampy floodplains.
Currently the local economy of Caloudonoum has dissintergrated as when joining Misberia, the state did not see a reason to keep the economy functioning as the Federal Government in Misberia was thriving. Historically Caloudonoum's economy was largely focused on the three main areas of trade, finances and energy production.
Caloudonoum was a multilingual country with two main languages and four official languages. English was the dominant language, spoke by the entire population and is the first language of 90% of the country. Dutch is the second main language, being spoken by 30% of the country and is the first language of 15% of the country. Cornish Gaelic and Latin are both official languages but they are spoken rarely and are not considered a major language in domestic affairs.
Caloudonoum has four ethnic groups of people. The Calodanian's make up 60% of the country and are people mainly inhabiting Caledonia, New Caledonia and Shergin. Their main language is English. Trinovantes make up 15% of the country and live mainly in Trinovoy, Shergin and Colnestaauune. Their main language is Dutch. Abremanians inhabit the province of Abreum and make up 20% of the country's population. They speak English but are predominantly Catholic. Moslem-Caledoniand make up 5% of the country and live in D'quar. They speak English as their first language but are predominantly Muslim.
Caloudonoum has a Regional Health Service, the health system is payed for and owned by the state.
Caloudonoum has a highly rated education system and is home to two universities, Middlewick University and Capital University. Education is free to all citizens with tuition and school trips financed by the government. University tuition is also free to Calodan citizens but requires fees for foreign students.
Calodan culture is an odd mix of Central European culture and British culture. It is a very progressive country, where same-sex marriage is legal along with the legalisation of medical drugs and many anti-discrimination laws to protect women, LGBT people and the disabled. It's culture is largely related to the different ethnic groups with Calodan's having a culture similar to Britain, whereas Trinovantes having a more European Culture. The anthem of Caloudonoum is to the tune of 'Prussian Glory'with words in both English and Dutch, although the words are never usually sung.
Foreign relations is currently controlled by the Federal Government in United Kingdoms of Misberia and Caloudonum. Although the region does have special privileges to conduct its own affairs with the community.
Caloudonoum has an army, navy and air-force. The Army is it's greatest strength with two main sections: The Calodan Guard and the Calodan infantry. The Calodan Guard is a highly trained force that caries out special missions but it's primary duty is acting as a personal guard to the Heer of Caledonia. The Calodan infantry is a full time army that is trained to mainly protect Caloudonoum from invasion The Calodan Navy operates on their base in Colnestaauune and consists of two frigates and one battleship. They are mainly used to protect Caloudonoum's merchant Navy. Caloudonoum's air force consists of three, quite outdated aircraft. However, the air force is mainly used to help provide reconnaissance for the army and its poor defence abilities are made up for by a large anti-aircraft artillery system.
West Impach was a Federal Crown Colony run by Sir Jackson of Impach. The region was claimed and has since held been held as a colony since Second Fesmarian Republic collapsed in mid April and was seized after discussions with Misberia and Germania. The colony was quiet and there have been rumors of a possible secessionist movement in the future.
