The Commonwealth of Leon is a micronation founded on July 13, 2021.
History
The Commonwealth of Leon was officially founded on July 13, 2021. However, there were two countries that preceded it. First, was the People's Bedroom Republic, a communist dictatorship based around a Discord server that lasted around a day and a half. After this failure, the United Bedroom Republic was founded. The exact date of founding is not known, as there was no declaration of independence, but it was likely June 19, 2021. They fought a "war" over Discord due to a friend of Noah telling another one of his friends to commit suicide. That was the original reason for the Republic to exist, as more of a rallying cry and an online base of operations. There were no elections during this period, but there was a President, Noah L. Also, during this period, the Byte was the official currency, divided into 100 Minibytes. However, there were some major political changes within the Republic, including demands for elections. So, elections there would be. The Commonwealth of Leon, a constitutional monarchy similar to the United Kingdom, was born. So, on July 13, 2021, constitution was written, and a declaration of independence was included in Article 6. On January 3, 2022, a new and very similar constitution was put in place, the only main changes being that the King's power was severely rolled back, creating a more democratic Commonwealth.
Government & Politics
The Commonwealth is a constitutional monarchy, with the Prime Minister serving a 3-month term, elected directly by the citizens, and appointing half of the Parliament. The King appoints the other half. If there is an odd number of Parliament seats, the Prime Minister will choose the odd seat remaining. The King cannot vote in Parliament meetings, but the Prime Minister and all Parliament members can. There is no current rule for how many Parliament members there can be, but usually it is chosen roughly based on the current population. The higher the population, the more Parliament members there will be. At any time, Parliament members can be un-appointed and new ones can be chosen. Currently, there are 3 Parliament members, including the Prime Minister. The ideologies of communism and fascism were banned in the Commonwealth with the unanimous passing of the Elimination of Foreign Ideologies Act, on June 4, 2021. Although they can be created, there are no current political parties.
