On the 27th of May, 2021, The Maritime Republic of The Damariscotta experienced the worst accident in the history of its economic and agricultural affairs. The same day, the Cefministro of The Damariscotta and the General Secretary and President of Paloma established a Joint Commission into the event. The leaders of The Damariscotta and Paloma have charged a four member commission as follows:

The purpose of the commission is to conduct a comprehensive study and investigation of the recent accident involving the O’Brien farm of The Maritime Republic of The Damariscotta and in the Free Socialist State of Paloma. The Commission’s study and investigation shall include:

  1. An assessment of the events and their causes; this assessment shall include, but shall not be limited to, an evaluation of the actual and potential impact of the events on the economic and environmental affairs of The Damariscotta and Paloma;
  2. An evaluation of the operation and procedures of The O’Brien Farm;
  3. Appropriate recommendations based upon the Commission’s findings.

Account of The Accident

On Thursday, May 27th, 2021, roughly forty seconds after the hour of 14:00 p.m. a strong gust of wind at fifteen miles per hour (24 km) hit the Dorward Hall in Machias, the main farming section of the O’Brien Farm was blown off the window sill and the farm fell three stories. At this time, Archie Birch was on a call with the General Secretary and President of Paloma and President of North Dirigo, were present for the subsequent investigation and collection of the aftermath. Four tomato plants survived the fall.

The Commission on the Accident at The O’Brien Farm, after conducting a investigation into the events of the accident and the conditions existing prior to the accident, finds and concludes: To prevent further accidents as serious as The 5/27 Incident, fundamental changes will be necessary in the organisation procedures, and practices and about all in the attitudes of the Commission and to the extent that the institutions we investigated are typical of the agricultural sector.

Assessment of Significant Events

  1. The accident at The O’Brien Farm occurred as a result of a series of human and natural failures.
  2. Equipment and wind dynamic understanding failures initiated the events of May 27th and contributed to the failure of production. (Cilantro, Basil and Tomatoes)


For the economic and agricultural stability and development of the Maritime Republic of The Damariscotta and Free Socialist State of Paloma, the Commission recommends the following to ensure an accident of this scale does not occur again,

  1. Procedures shall be introduced for conducting and daily running of a farm.
  2. Survey regarding the placement of farming and other such equipment.
