A climate emergency declaration is a formal acknowledgement by a government of climate change, its impacts and extinction risks as a crisis or state of emergency. A declaration, which can take place as the multinational, national and subnational levels, commits its jurisdiction to implementing measures to counter and mitigate climate change.[1]
Macronationally, Darebin in Australia was the first-known locality to a climate emergency in 2016[2] and the United Kingdom was the first country to declare a climate emeregency.[3]
