His Majesty's Armed Forces, commonly known as the Mevoran Armed Forces or the Armed Forces of Mevora, are the military forces responsible for the defence of the Kingdom of Mevora. They also promote Mevora's interests overseas, provide humanitarian aid and support allied states.
The commander-in-chief is the Monarch, currently Theodore I, to whom all members of the armed forces swear allegiance. The Prime Minister (acting with the Cabinet - primarily the Secretary of State for Defence) can make the key decisions on the use of the armed forces.
History
The armed forces were founded on 18 July 2023. They have a limited constitutional position but can be somewhat traced back to the constitution. The constitution vests the role of commander-in-chief of the armed forces into the monarchy, and also permits parliament to raise and maintain armed forces.
Branches
His Majesty's Naval Service is the overarching body for the naval forces of Mevora. It is made up of the Royal Mevoran Navy and the Corps of Royal Mevoran Marines. They provide naval supremacy and amphibious warfare.
The naval service is lead by the First Sea Lord, who is typically an Admiral.
The Royal Mevoran Navy is the naval warfare force of the armed forces and the main branch of the naval service. The navy is made up of a surface fleet, submarine service and air arm.
The navy is lead by the Chief of the Naval Staff, who normally ranks at Admiral. The Chief of the Naval Staff is also normally the First Sea Lord.
Marines
The Royal Mevoran Marines are the naval service's amphibious troops. The marines make up Mevora's commando force and specialise in amphibious, artic and mountain warfare.
They are lead by the Commandant General Royal Marines, who ranks at Brigadier General or above.
Army
The Mevoran Army is made up of the Regular Army and the Territorial Army (Army Reserve) and serves as the land warfare force of the armed forces. The army is primarily infantry but does maintain some regiments and corps with other supporting roles.
The army is lead by the Chief of the General Staff, who normally ranks at General.
Air Force
The Royal Mevoran Air Force is the air warfare and supremacy force in the armed forces. They also provide some support to the navy and army. The air force is lead by the Chief of the Air Staff, who normally ranks at Air Chief Marshal.
Command Organization
King Theodore I sits as commander-in-chief, with officers and all other personnel swearing allegiance to him. Often the prime minister and secretary of state for defence help govern the armed forces alongside the monarch or on their behalf.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) is the senior-most officer of the armed forces and is an appointment that can be held by an Admiral, Air Chief Marshal or General. The CDS is the principal military advisor to the defence secretary.
Recruitment
All branches of the armed forces recruit from within Mevora. All citizens of Mevora who meet the entry requirements may apply to join. The minimum recruitment age in the military is 16, however some branches allow prospective recruits to apply at 15 and 9 months provided they are 16 by the time they start training. The maximum recruitment age is dependent on the role and branch is being applied for.
