Aufenbauer (Portuguese pronunciation: [bˌa͡ʊeɾˈa͡ɪ]), officialy Municipality of Aufenbauer (Portuguese: Município de Aufenbauer, Spanish: Municipalidad de Aufenbauer) is one of the eight municipalities of Ebenthal. With 3 km² it is the largest Ebenthaler municipality as well as the fifth most populated, with 11 permanent residents. It is also Ebenthal's the least urbanized administrative division, with only 18% of the population living in urban area. Aufenbauer is governed by an assembly-independent executive-led devolved government headed by a Chief Executive appointed by the King of Ebenthal according to the municipality's parliamentary representation. Due to the presence of workers of Bolivian origin, Aufenbauer adopts both Portuguese and Spanish as well as co-official languages.

As in the entire country, modern-day Aufenbauer had been inhabited by native tribes for centuries prior to the European colonization, but like Erzfelsen, it differs from the rest of the country's history by having being inhabited mostly by natives of the Macro-Jê ethinicities. The natives were expelled by the Bandeiras Expeditions which expanded the Portuguese colonial rule in Brazil, establishing the freguesia of Santa Luzia in 1724. Following Brazilian independence, Santa Luzia became a municipality of vast farmlands. In 1932 Geraldo Fernandes de Carvalho bought a piece of land in the Minas Gerais's municipality and started his own farm which, 77 years later, was incorporated into Ebenthal by his great-grandson Arthur van der Bruyn. Geraldo's farm became the Principality of Bauerai which, nonetheless, was abolished in 2022 along with the other country's subnational monarchies. Finally in 2024 the Redivision Act completely restructured Ebenthal's model of administrative divisions and effectively merged the Aufenbauer settlements of Anningen and Ölbaum into a single municipality, converting the province into the municipality under its current name.

The Aufenbauer territory comprises a farm complex crossed by the Altendamenach River, which is the name given nationally to the Brazilian-originated Rio das Velha (or Old Crone River). The municipality has the highest Ebenthal's higher GDP per capita. Furthermore, Aufenbauer is the Ebenthaler municipality with the largest own energy production, generating up to around 80% of municipally consumed electricity through solar panels.

Etimology

The name "Aufenbauer" is a corruption of the combination of the prefix aufen, "open" and bauer, "farm", both of German origin. The name, adopted in 2024, is inspired by the name of the ancient province of Bauerai, whose name was a corruption of bauer in Hunsrik.
