The Aether Nation, also known as Aetheria, is a micronation in the Casius Quadrangle of the planet Mars. The Aether Nation was established in October of 12020, as a constitutional monarchy. The nation functions as a digital state, with goals of setting up a permanent settlement within the Casius Quadrangle on Mars and venturing beyond in the future.

Functioning as a constitutional monarchy, the head of state is recognized as the Aetherlord, who maintains the executive power in the Aether Nation's Executive branch of their three-branch government. The second branch of government, the Legislative branch, consists of the House of Elementals, who are responsible for proposing and voting on laws that continue to the Aetherlord for approval. Members of the House of Elementals are voted directly by the citizens of Aetheria, and the nation's constitution mandates that at least three political parties be present in the House of Elementals, with no single party ever gaining majority control. The third branch of government, the Judicial branch, consists of the Aether Sages. The Aether Sages function as the highest court in the nation and have the duty of verifying that all legislation remains in line with the constitution. The head of the Judicial branch, the Grand Sage, is responsible for both leading the Aether Sages, and overseeing the activity within the House of Elementals, although unable to vote on legislation. The Grand Sage also preforms coronations of new Aetherlords.

Etymology

The Aether Nation derives from the classical element of the aether. As humans continue to learn more and expand our reach throughout the universe, we begin our reach out into the aether. The Aether Nation comes from this curiosity and desire to explore that humanity encompasses.

History

The Aether Nation began as an idea in August of 12020. The initial goal of the Aether Nation was to form a nation on the planet Mars, as a way to drive creative projects relating to space exploration. This included timekeeping systems for other planets, research of climate effects, travel between Earth and Mars, and future space travel beyond Mars. With the rise in popularity of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and four nations based upon the four classical elements, the Aether Nation was born from the previous desire regarding space exploration, embodied through a nation based upon the theorized 5th classical element.

The constitution of the Aether Nation began work in October of 12020 and was ratified on October 10, 12020, bringing the new nation into existence.

Politics and government

The Aether Nation is a constitutional monarchy, with executive power delegated to the Aetherlord (head of state), legislative power delegated to the House of Elementals, and the judicial power delegated to the Aether Sages. The Executive and Judicial branches of government are strictly non-partisan. The activity of political parties is allowed within the House of Elementals, with restrictions in place preventing one party from gaining majority control, and a constitutional mandate that a minimum of three parties controls seats in the House of Elementals at any given time. The Aether Nation allows for its citizens and residents to practice freedom of religion but is a strictly secular state to prevent religious activity from interfering with government activity. The Aether Nation also follows the Human Era Calendar, as opposed to the Gregorian Calendar used by most of the international community. This choice is to further separate church and state within the Aetherian government.

With wishes to remain a passive/neutral state, the Aether Nation lacks a formal military. The Aether Nation also does not have a defensive force currently, although expected to change in the future once a Martian settlement has been made and a defensive force is made necessary by any aggressive behavior in neighboring states. The Aether Nation currently has very little activity in the international community, as a fledgling nation focusing on internal affairs.
