Neither could I. The mathematics seemed solid, but to me the claim was rather astonishing. Would this qualify for the Clay prize?

If I interpret the paper correctly, it also asserts that there are zeros arbitrarily close to the boundaries of the critical region . Because there are no zeros on these boundaries, this in turn would imply that the Riemann zeta function has an infinite number of zeros, although none have ever been found. Flouran, my interpretation of the Clay prize rules: http://www.claymath.org/millennium/Rules_etc/ is that a counterexample, or proof of falsity, could potentially qualify for the prize, but not necessarily. In this case, I suspect that it would qualify for the full prize. However, I am not holding my breath, since last August, the author apparently published a purported proof of the Riemann hypothesis, commented upon here: http://staff.science.uva.nl/~thk/art...ingComment.pdf. To the author's credit, the claim in both cases is of an "apparent" proof or disproof, awaiting detailed analysis before making the claim more definite.

The RH is intimately related to the issues in the mersenneforum. When we discover Mersennes, and do enough work, we will be able to prove the infinitude of the Mersenne Primes. This, because of the logical relationship of certain very old, very important number theoretical questions, (such as the finite or infinite number of Mersenne Primes, the Number of Fermat Primes, the Number of Perfect Numbers, the nonexistence of an odd perfect number, the Goldbach Conjecture, the Twin Prime Conjecture, the YJConjecture, and the FermatLucasY Conjecture, [the last two are presented in the mersenneforum math or puzzles sections]), will prove them all. Remind me in regard to RH: What is the critical region? ( 0.0 <= a <= 1.0 ) What's the smallest (first) real positive zero? What's a good proof that the 2n are zeros? And what's the latest status? By the way (btw) there are currently 47 known Mersenne Primes.
