The Most Exalted Royal Family Order of Vishwamitra is the highest and most senior order of chivalry of the State of Vishwamitra which was constituted on 3 July 2020 by a decree issued by then Rashtradhyaksh Tanishkaa Patranabish. The criteria of conferment of the decoration was changed on 30 November 2020 by the current Rashtradhyaksh Dhrubajyoti Roy issuing a royal decree which allowed the decoration to be conferred to be conferred upon foreign royalties in addition to state royalties.
The decoration is restricted to a membership of not more than 15 members at a time, with there being a room to accommodate only seven stranger knights/ladies at one time. The decoration is mandated to be conferred only once a year, i.e. on the eve of the National Day (15 April) and shall be conferred only for extraordinary services to the nation.
The award was restricted to only state royalties at time of its inception in July 2020, however the criteria was changed by the Royal Decree no. 13 issued on 30 November 2020, under His Majesty's order. Following the changes to the order, it is open to be conferred upon foreign monarchs as well, in addition to the state royalties.
Precedence and privileges
The Royal Family Order of Vishwamitra does not confer any special position to its recipients in the federal order of precedence or assign any monetary aide. The recipients of the order can bear the arms conferred to them with the insignia of the order and also use post-nominal letters of KV.
The composition of the Royal Family Order of Vishwamitra is strictly restricted to senior members of the royal families of Vishwamitra who are inducted into the order as Royal Knights or Ladies, whereas foreign monarchs are inducted as Stranger Knights and Ladies. The total membership of the order is restricted to 15 members at a time, with no more than 7 stranger recipients.
Grades and Insignia
The Rashtradhyaksh of Vishwamitra (currently Dhrubajyoti Roy) is Sovereign and Grand Master of the Order. All deeds granting decorations of the Order must bear the signature of the Sovereign and Grand Master. Members of the order are granted a certificate and personal coat of arms with the insignia of the Order. The Order is conferred in a single grade of Knight/Lady but with three variations:
- Royal Knight/Lady with Collar (reserved only for the Sovereign; only one at a time)
- Royal Knight/Lady (restricted only to federal and provincial royalties of the nation)
- Stranger Knight/Lady (conferred only upon foreign monarchs)
The collar of the order is restricted to one person at a time and is reserved only for the Sovereign of the order which is held by the Rashtradhyaksh in his capacity as fons honorum. The other Knights and Ladies (both royal and stranger) receive the sash of the order.
